The ASUS Zenbook S 13 OLED is a thin, light 13.3-inch laptop built around an OLED touch display and an Intel Core Ultra 7 processor. ASUS describes it as the world's thinnest ultraportable OLED laptop, at 2.2 lb (about 1 kg) and 0.46 inches (about 1.2 cm). Here is what the specifications mean in day-to-day use.
The OLED display
The screen is a 13.3-inch 16:10 touch display at 2880 x 1800 resolution, which ASUS calls 3K. OLED panels light each pixel individually, so black areas are typically very dark and contrast is high. ASUS lists 400 nits of peak brightness in HDR, a 60Hz refresh rate and Pantone-validated 100 percent DCI-P3 colour coverage. DCI-P3 is a wide colour range used in film, so the figure matters mostly for photo, video and design work. The 16:10 shape gives a little more vertical room than a 16:9 screen, which helps with documents and web pages.
Processor, memory and storage
The Intel Core Ultra 7 155U runs at 1.7 GHz and boosts up to 4.8 GHz, with 12 cores, 14 threads and 12MB of cache, according to ASUS. It is a low-power "U" series chip, designed for thin laptops and battery life rather than heavy sustained workloads. Graphics are Intel's integrated graphics, which handle everyday work and light creative tasks but are not aimed at demanding games.
The laptop has 16GB of LPDDR5x memory and a 512GB SSD. LPDDR5x memory is usually soldered to the board, so check that 16GB suits your needs, as it typically cannot be upgraded later.
Ports and battery
Ports are two Thunderbolt 4 (for display and power delivery), one USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A, one HDMI 2.1 and a 3.5mm combo audio jack. The battery is 63Wh; ASUS says it provides 13+ hours and supports fast charging through the Thunderbolt 4 ports. Battery life varies with brightness and workload. Because charging uses a Thunderbolt port, one of the two is occupied while plugged in.
Sound, camera and keyboard
ASUS lists speakers tuned by Harman Kardon with Dolby Atmos. The front camera is Full HD with infrared, which is the type used for face sign-in on Windows. The keyboard is a backlit chiclet design with a precision touchpad, and there is a dedicated Copilot key for Microsoft's Windows assistant.
Build and durability
The finish is ASUS's Plasma Ceramic Aluminum in Basalt Gray. ASUS says the laptop uses up to 90 percent recycled materials and is EPEAT Gold with Climate+ certified. It also says the laptop meets the US MIL-STD 810H standard, a set of military test methods. This describes how it was tested rather than a guarantee against damage, so treat it with ordinary care.
Who it suits
It suits people who carry a laptop daily, such as students, commuters and frequent travellers, and who want a bright, colourful screen in a light body. It is less suited to people who need a dedicated graphics card or a lot of memory.
