The ASUS Zenbook DUO (UX8406CA-PS99T) is a laptop with two 14-inch OLED touchscreens instead of one screen and a fixed keyboard. A detachable Bluetooth keyboard and a built-in kickstand let you arrange the screens in several ways. ASUS says the dual displays expand your workspace to 19.8 inches. Here is what the specs and modes mean.

Four ways to use two screens

ASUS lists these modes:

  • Laptop Mode: the keyboard sits on the lower screen and the upper screen acts as the main display.
  • Dual Screen Mode: both screens work together as a tall workspace, useful for a document on one and reference on the other.
  • Desktop Mode: the kickstand holds the screens upright, with the keyboard placed in front.
  • Sharing Mode: the screens face opposite ways so someone across the table can see the content.

The ability to snap everything back into one screen is the other half of the pitch.

The displays

Each screen is a 14-inch 16:10 Lumina OLED touch display at 2880 x 1800 (3K), with a 120Hz refresh rate. ASUS quotes 500-nit peak HDR brightness and Pantone-validated 100% DCI-P3 colour. OLED panels typically give deep blacks and strong contrast, and 120Hz makes scrolling and pen movement look smoother. The ASUS Pen 2.0, which supports MPP 2.0, is in the box for note-taking and sketching.

Processor, memory and storage

The Intel Core Ultra 9 285H comes with an Intel AI Boost NPU and Intel Arc graphics, and ASUS positions it for AI-ready features in Windows 11. The listing gives 32GB of LPDDR5x memory and a 1TB PCIe 4.0 SSD. LPDDR5x memory is usually soldered to the board, so it is typically not upgradeable later; confirm with the specification. This combination suits heavy multitasking, creative apps and everyday office work.

Portability and durability

ASUS gives the weight as 3.64 lb and the thickness as 0.57 inches (rising to 0.78 inches), counting the keyboard. The brand states the laptop meets US MIL-STD 810H military standards, a set of test methods covering conditions such as drops, vibration and temperature. Treat it as the maker's testing claim rather than a guarantee of protection.

Battery and charging

The 75Wh battery is rated by ASUS at up to 16 hours of video playback in Laptop mode and 9 hours in Dual Screen mode. Real-world results depend on brightness and workload, and running two OLED screens naturally draws more power. Fast-charge is supported through the Thunderbolt 4 USB-C ports, and a 65W USB-C charger is included.

Ports and wireless

Ports: two Thunderbolt 4, one USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A, HDMI 2.1 (TMDS) and a combo audio jack. Wireless is Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4. The keyboard is full-size, detaches magnetically and charges when attached. The front camera is FHD with infrared.

Who it suits

It suits people who live in multiple windows: programmers, writers, traders, students and creators who want a second screen that travels with them. It may suit travellers who normally pack a portable monitor. If you mostly use one window at a time, a standard laptop is simpler.

What to check before you buy

  • Desk space: the stand and keyboard need flat room in desktop mode.
  • Lap use: check how comfortable Laptop mode is on your knees.
  • Software: confirm your key apps handle two screens and touch input well.
  • Battery needs: dual-screen use shortens battery life, so check your charging options.
  • Ports: only one Type-A port is listed, so you may want a hub.
  • In the box: a sleeve, ASUS Pen 2.0 and 65W charger are listed.

  • 3.64 lb, with sleeve, pen and charger included.
