The ASUS Zenbook DUO (UX8406CA) is a laptop with two 14-inch OLED touchscreens instead of one screen and a keyboard deck. A detachable Bluetooth keyboard and a built-in kickstand let you arrange the screens in several ways. This page explains what its specs mean and who might get the most from it.
Two screens, one workspace
ASUS says the two displays expand your workspace to up to 19.8 inches. Each is a 14-inch OLED panel with 3K resolution, a 120Hz refresh rate and a 0.2ms response time, and each accepts touch input. OLED panels light each pixel individually, which typically gives deep blacks and strong contrast. A 120Hz refresh rate makes scrolling and pen or touch movement look smoother than on a 60Hz screen. The listing describes the finish as glossy, so reflections can show in bright rooms.
With two screens, you can keep a document on one and reference material on the other, or place a video call beside your notes.
Keyboard and kickstand
The full-size Bluetooth keyboard is magnetic and detachable. ASUS says it charges when attached. When you remove it, the second screen is free to show more content, and the built-in kickstand holds the laptop upright. Attached to the lower screen, the keyboard gives a more conventional laptop layout. Think about where you will use it, as a detached keyboard needs desk space.
Processor, memory and storage
- Processor: Intel Core Ultra 7 255H. ASUS calls it AI-powered.
- AI engine: the Intel AI Boost NPU is rated at up to 13 TOPS. TOPS means trillions of operations per second, and an NPU is a processor dedicated to AI tasks, so these can run with less load on the main processor.
- Graphics: Intel Arc Graphics, integrated into the processor.
- Memory: 32GB of LPDDR5x. This type of memory is typically soldered to the board, so it generally cannot be upgraded later.
- Storage: a 1TB M.2 NVMe SSD on PCIe 4.0.
This gives plenty of room for multitasking, large files and many open applications.
Battery, size and weight
The laptop has a 75 Wh battery. Actual runtime depends on brightness, workload and how many screens are on, and two bright OLED panels will draw more than one. It measures about 12.3 x 8.6 inches and 0.6 inches thick, and weighs about 3.6 lb (1.6 kg). The listing says it is Intel Evo certified, a platform programme that sets requirements for responsiveness, battery and wake time. It ships with Windows 11 in Inkwell Gray.
Software and gestures
ASUS says the laptop includes dedicated software and gesture control to help manage the two screens, so you can move windows between them and change the layout. Check the manual for the supported layouts.
Who it suits
It suits people who work with several windows at once, such as writers, analysts, students and travelling professionals who want a second screen without carrying a monitor. It can also suit anyone who likes to arrange the screens as a tent or stacked display. If you mostly browse on one window, a single-screen laptop may be simpler.
What to check before you buy
- Workspace: check that the detachable keyboard and kickstand layouts fit your desk or tray table.
- Software: make sure the applications you use handle two screens well.
- Upgradability: memory is typically not upgradeable, so 32GB is what you get.
- Ports and charger: check the ports, and what charger is included.
- Glossy screens: consider reflections in your usual workspace.
- Model code: confirm that the UX8406CA-DS79T configuration matches what you want.
