The ASUS Vivobook S16 (M5606KA-DS76) is a 16-inch thin-and-light laptop built around an AMD Ryzen AI 7 350 processor and a 3K OLED display. It's a Copilot+ PC, meaning it has a neural processing unit for on-device AI features, and ASUS pitches it at everyday work, creative projects and entertainment.

The 16-inch 3K OLED display

The panel is 2880 x 1800 pixels in a 16:10 shape, which gives more vertical space than a 16:9 screen for documents and web pages. ASUS lists 100% DCI-P3 colour coverage, 600-nit peak HDR brightness and a 120Hz refresh rate. DCI-P3 is a wide colour space used in cinema and photo work, and a higher refresh rate makes scrolling and motion look smoother.

OLED panels light each pixel individually, which typically produces deep blacks and strong contrast. Peak HDR brightness applies to small bright areas of an HDR image, not to a full white screen.

Ryzen AI 7 350 and the NPU

The processor is the AMD Ryzen AI 7 350, with an XDNA NPU that ASUS rates at up to 50 TOPS. TOPS means trillions of operations per second, and the NPU handles AI tasks such as background blur, transcription and the Copilot+ features, so the main CPU and graphics are free for other work. The Copilot+ label requires an NPU of at least 40 TOPS.

Graphics come from the integrated AMD Radeon 860M, which ASUS says has built-in AI accelerators and supports 4K video streaming and responsive multitasking. Integrated graphics typically handle everyday use, light creative work and casual games, though demanding titles need a laptop with a dedicated graphics card.

Memory and storage

The configuration has 16GB of memory and a 1TB SSD. Sixteen gigabytes suits multitasking with many browser tabs and office applications, and a 1TB SSD offers fast start-up and file access with room for large libraries. Check the manual or ASUS support for whether memory is soldered, because that decides whether it can be upgraded later.

Battery and charging

The laptop has a 75Wh battery, and ASUS quotes up to 14 hours. That figure comes from an ASUS video-playback test on a different configuration, a Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 model with 32GB of memory, with Wi-Fi off and the screen at 150 cd/m2. ASUS notes actual battery life varies with configuration, use and power settings, and decreases over the life of the battery.

Design, keyboard and sound

The body is metal with an anti-fingerprint finish, 0.55 in (about 14 mm) thin and 3.31 lb (about 1.5 kg). A 180° hinge lets it lie flat. The keyboard is full-size with a numeric keypad, a single-zone RGB backlight and a dedicated Copilot key. Speakers are tuned by Harman/Kardon with Dolby Atmos support.

Camera, security and durability

The 1080p IR webcam has a privacy shutter, and supports Windows Hello face login, background blur and automatic framing. ASUS also lists Microsoft Pluton security and ASUS Adaptive Lock. The listing notes the laptop passed five US MIL-STD 810H test procedures: high and low temperature, shock, vibration and altitude. That isn't a guarantee against damage.

Who it suits

It suits students and professionals who want a large, bright screen without a heavy machine, creators who value colour accuracy, and anyone interested in the new on-device AI features.

What to check before you buy

  • Size: a 16-inch laptop is wider than a 14-inch one, so confirm it fits your bag and desk.
  • Software needs: check that your key programs run well on this processor and Windows version.
  • Gaming or heavy 3D work: integrated graphics have limits.
  • Ports and charger: check the ports match your accessories.
  • Upgrades: check whether memory and storage can be changed.
  • Warranty: read the terms in the paperwork.
