The ASUS Vivobook S 16 OLED (model S5606MA-DS96) is a slim 16-inch laptop with an OLED display and an Intel Core Ultra 9 185H processor. It aims to give a large screen and plenty of processing power in a body that weighs just over 3 lb, which makes it a candidate for people who work on the move but dislike small screens.
What an OLED screen changes
The 16-inch display is OLED, which means each pixel makes its own light. Compared with a typical LCD panel, OLED screens generally show deeper blacks and stronger contrast, and ASUS describes the display as having near-frameless edges and bright, accurate colour, even outdoors. The brand calls the panel ASUS Lumina OLED. That kind of screen suits watching films, editing photos and working with colour-sensitive material, though reflections still matter in direct sun.
Core Ultra 9, Arc graphics and the AI features
The Intel Core Ultra 9 185H is part of Intel's Core Ultra line, which adds a neural processing unit (NPU) to the usual CPU and graphics. The NPU is designed to handle certain AI tasks, such as background blur on calls, at lower power than the main processor. The laptop uses Intel Arc integrated graphics, which ASUS says handles streaming of high-resolution content, smooth casual gaming and editing software. Integrated graphics are not a replacement for a dedicated GPU in demanding 3D games or heavy video work.
There is also a dedicated Copilot key on the keyboard, and the machine carries the Intel Evo Edition label, which Intel uses for laptops meeting its standards for responsiveness and battery life.
Memory and storage
The laptop has 16GB of memory and a 1TB SSD. That is comfortable for office work, many browser tabs and photo editing. On thin laptops memory is often soldered to the board, so it is worth confirming on ASUS's spec sheet whether it can be upgraded later.
Battery, size and ports
ASUS lists up to 16 hours of battery life. Brand battery figures usually come from light-use tests, so heavy work and high screen brightness will shorten it. The body measures about 13.9 x 9.7 inches and 0.6 inches thick, weighing 3.3 lb (about 1.5 kg). A 75W adapter is included.
Ports are two Thunderbolt 4, two USB-A, one HDMI, a combo audio jack and a micro SD card reader. Thunderbolt 4 can carry data, video and power over one cable, which is useful for docks and external monitors.
Keyboard, camera and sound
The keyboard has customizable RGB backlighting and a large touchpad. The 1080p FHD IR camera has a built-in shutter and supports facial login with Windows Hello. ASUS says the multi-dimensional sound system helps on calls. The 180° hinge lets the screen lie flat. The system runs Windows 11 Home.
Who it suits
It suits students, professionals and creators who want a big, colourful screen in a light body. It is less suited to people who need a dedicated graphics card for gaming or 3D work.
What to check before you buy
- Screen finish: glossy OLED panels can reflect light, so think about where you work.
- Memory: confirm whether 16GB is enough for your software and whether it can be expanded.
- Ports: check you have the connections you need for your monitor, drives or cameras.
- Battery expectations: treat the 16-hour figure as a best case for light use.
- Warranty and support: check what the manual and brand terms cover.
