The ASUS Vivobook S 15 OLED (model K5504VA-ES96) is a 15.6-inch Windows laptop built around an OLED screen and a 13th-generation Intel Core i9 processor. ASUS positions it for school, work and entertainment in a slim body. Here is what its main specifications mean in practice.
The 2.8K OLED display
The screen is a 15.6-inch OLED panel at 2880 x 1800 resolution, which ASUS calls 2.8K. That is noticeably sharper than Full HD, so text and photos look finer. OLED panels light each pixel individually, which is why ASUS quotes a 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio and a 0.2ms response time. The refresh rate is 120Hz, twice the usual 60Hz, which makes scrolling and motion look smoother.
Colour is listed at 100% DCI-P3, a wide gamut often used for video and photo work, and the panel carries VESA DisplayHDR True Black 600 certification with 600 nits of peak brightness. HDR peak brightness applies to small bright areas of an image, so everyday full-screen brightness is lower. The bezels are ultra-slim NanoEdge.
Processor and graphics
The Intel Core i9-13900H runs at 2.6 GHz and boosts up to 5.4 GHz, with 14 cores, 20 threads and 24MB of cache. It is an H-series chip, which in general means higher power than the thin-and-light U-series, and more headroom for multitasking, photo editing and compiling code. Graphics are Intel Iris Xe, integrated into the processor. They suit creative apps and light games, but are not equal to a dedicated gaming graphics card.
Memory, storage and Evo
The laptop has 16GB of LPDDR5 memory. LPDDR5 is soldered to the board, so it typically cannot be upgraded later. Storage is a 1TB M.2 NVMe PCIe 4.0 SSD, which is quick to start up and open large files.
It is described as an Intel Evo verified laptop. Evo is Intel's platform label for ultraportables, covering things like quick wake, fast charging and a battery meant to last through the day. Real battery life varies with screen brightness and workload.
Connectivity
Ports include one Thunderbolt 4 (supporting display and power delivery), one USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A, one USB 2.0 Type-A, an HDMI 1.4 output and a 3.5mm combo audio jack. Wireless is Wi-Fi 6E (802.11ax) and Bluetooth 5. ASUS notes that USB transfer speeds vary with the devices involved.
Size and weight: about 14.1 x 9.0 x 0.7 inches (36 x 23 x 1.8 cm), and roughly 3.8 lb (1.7 kg).
Who it suits
It suits students and professionals who spend long hours looking at the screen and want rich colour, such as photo and video editors, designers or anyone who watches a lot of video. It also suits people who want a fast processor in a fairly slim body. Anyone who needs a powerful dedicated graphics card for modern games or 3D work would typically look at a laptop with one.
What to check before you buy
- Memory: 16GB is fixed on LPDDR5 laptops, so decide if it covers your needs for the next few years.
- Ports: only one Thunderbolt 4 port is listed; consider a dock if you use several accessories.
- HDMI version: the HDMI port is 1.4, which matters if you plan to drive a high-resolution external monitor. Thunderbolt 4 is the alternative.
- OLED care: check ASUS's guidance on screen settings and static images.
- Charging: check which charger comes in the box and whether USB-C charging suits you.
