The ASUS Vivobook Go 12 (model L210MA-DS04) is a compact 11.6-inch laptop built around an Intel Celeron N4020 processor. It is thin, light and designed for basic everyday tasks away from a desk. Here is what its specs mean and where its limits are.
Processor and memory
The Intel Celeron N4020 runs at 1.1GHz and can reach up to 2.8GHz, with 4MB of cache and Intel UHD graphics. It is an entry-level processor aimed at web browsing, email, documents, video streaming and online classes. It isn't designed for demanding work such as video editing, large spreadsheets or recent games.
The laptop has 4GB of DDR4 RAM. That is enough for light multitasking, but a browser with many tabs can fill it quickly. Check whether the memory is soldered, as on many compact laptops; if it is, it can't be upgraded later.
Storage: what eMMC is
The 128GB of storage is eMMC flash. This is a type of soldered flash memory that is typically slower than the SSD drives found in many other laptops, though still much faster to start up than a spinning hard drive. 128GB holds Windows, apps and a modest set of files, so plan for cloud storage or an external drive for larger collections.
Windows 11 Home in S mode
The laptop ships with Windows 11 Home in S mode. S mode only runs apps from Microsoft's own app catalogue, which Microsoft says adds protection from malicious software. Users can usually switch out of S mode to install other software, though Microsoft's rules say that is a one-way change. Check Microsoft's current guidance before you switch. The listing also includes one year of Office 365 Personal.
Display
The 11.6-inch screen is HD (1366 x 768), 16:9, with a 73 percent screen-to-body ratio. That resolution is typical of compact laptops and works for documents and video, but offers less sharpness and working space than a Full HD screen.
Ports and portability
The ports are USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-C, USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A and HDMI. ASUS notes that actual USB transfer speeds vary with the host device and the file. The laptop is 0.7 inches thick (about 1.8 cm) and weighs 2.31 lb (about 1.05 kg), battery included. It measures about 11.0 x 7.5 inches (28 x 19 cm).
In the box: the laptop, an AC adapter, a power cord, a user manual and a warranty card.
Who it suits
It suits people who want a small, light second computer for travel, a student's basic schoolwork, or a simple laptop for browsing and documents. It is not aimed at power users.
What to check before you buy
- Workload: if you plan on heavy software, a faster processor and more memory are typically needed.
- Storage: 128GB eMMC fills quickly, so think about external or cloud storage.
- S mode: confirm that the apps you need are available in S mode, or that you're comfortable switching out of S mode.
- Screen: look at whether 1366 x 768 is sharp enough for your use.
- Typing comfort: an 11.6-inch keyboard is smaller than a full-size one.
- Battery: the listing doesn't state battery hours, so check ASUS's page.
