The ASUS Vivobook 16 (model F1605ZA-AS56) is an everyday laptop with a 16-inch screen, an Intel Core i5 processor and 16GB of memory. ASUS describes it as giving a bigger screen without giving up portability, and it comes in a Cool Silver finish with Windows 11 Home.

The processor and graphics

The Intel Core i5-1235U is a 12th-generation chip that ASUS describes as a 10-core processor. The "U" suffix usually marks a power-efficient laptop chip, suited to office work, browsing, streaming, light photo editing and multitasking, rather than sustained heavy gaming. Graphics come from Intel Iris Xe, integrated into the processor. Iris Xe is typically fine for video, casual games and general creative work, but it is not a dedicated gaming graphics card.

Memory and storage

The laptop has 16GB of DDR4 memory, which is generous for an everyday machine. It gives room for many browser tabs, office apps and a video call at the same time. Storage is a 512GB PCIe Gen 3 SSD. Solid-state drives make start-up and app launches quick, and 512GB is enough for a typical user's apps and documents, though large photo and video libraries may fill it, in which case an external drive helps.

The 16-inch display

The WUXGA display has a 1920 x 1200 resolution, which is a 16:10 shape. Compared with the 16:9 shape of a standard Full HD screen, 16:10 gives extra vertical space, useful for documents, web pages and spreadsheets. ASUS says the panel keeps things sharp for scrolling and creating. A full-size keyboard with a number pad is included, which helps with data entry.

Battery and portability

ASUS quotes up to 10 hours of battery. Real-world hours depend on brightness, workload and wireless use. The laptop measures about 14.1 x 9.8 x 0.8 inches (roughly 36 x 25 x 2 cm) and weighs 4.1 lb (about 1.9 kg), which is light for a 16-inch model but heavier than a 13-inch ultraportable.

Who it suits

It suits students, home-office workers and families who want a larger screen for everyday work, with enough memory and storage to avoid slowing down. It is less suited to demanding 3D games or heavy video production, which typically call for a dedicated graphics card.

What to check before you buy

  • Size: a 16-inch laptop needs a roomy bag; check the measurements against yours.
  • Ports: the listing does not itemise ports, so confirm that it covers your monitor, USB devices and charging.
  • Workload: if you edit video or play modern 3D games, consider whether integrated graphics will do.
  • Storage: think about whether 512GB is enough, or whether you plan to use cloud storage or external drives.
  • Operating system: it ships with Windows 11 Home; check that your software works with it.
  • Warranty: check the manufacturer's terms and what the seller's return terms allow.
