The ASUS VivoBook 15 S513UA-DS74 is a thin and light 15.6-inch laptop with an AMD Ryzen 7 5700U processor, 8GB of memory and a 1TB solid-state drive. It runs Windows 10 Home and adds a backlit keyboard and fingerprint sensor. It is built for everyday computing such as browsing, documents, streaming and study.
Display and design
The 15.6-inch Full HD screen uses ASUS's NanoEdge bezels, which give an 85% screen-to-body ratio. A higher ratio means less frame around the display, so the laptop is more compact than the screen size suggests. ASUS describes the VivoBook 15 as having standout colours and a colour-blocked Enter key. It weighs 4.0 lb (about 1.8 kg) and is about 0.9 inches thick.
Processor and graphics
The Ryzen 7 5700U has eight cores, a 1.8 GHz base speed, up to 4.3 GHz boost and 8MB of cache. The "U" series is designed for thin laptops, balancing performance and battery life. Eight cores are helpful when you run several programs at once or work with video and photo software. Graphics are AMD Radeon integrated graphics, suitable for everyday visuals and light games rather than demanding titles.
Memory and storage
There is 8GB of DDR4 memory, which handles typical office and browser use, though people who keep lots of tabs and programs open may want more. The 1TB PCIe NVMe M.2 SSD is roomy and typically much faster than a traditional hard drive for boot and loading times.
Keyboard and fingerprint sensor
The ergonomic keyboard is backlit, which helps in dim rooms. The fingerprint sensor works with Windows Hello, so you can sign in with a touch instead of typing a password.
Ports and wireless
ASUS lists USB 3.2 Type-C, USB 3.2 Type-A, USB 2.0, HDMI and Wi-Fi 5 (802.11ac). ASUS notes that USB transfer speeds vary with the device, file type and system configuration. Wi-Fi 5 is a widely supported standard, though it is a generation behind Wi-Fi 6.
Operating system
It ships with Windows 10 Home, and ASUS says it is eligible for an upgrade to Windows 11 when available. See the ASUS website for upgrade details.
Who it suits
It suits students and home users who want a mainstream laptop with a large screen, plenty of storage and quick sign-in, without the weight of a gaming machine.
