This ASUS VivoBook is a 15.6-inch Windows laptop built around an 11th-generation Intel Core i5-1135G7 processor. It is configured with 20GB of RAM and a 1TB solid-state drive, which is more memory and storage than many laptops of this class ship with. It is aimed at everyday work, study and general computing.

What the processor and memory give you

The Core i5-1135G7 has four cores and eight threads. ASUS lists a 2.4 GHz base frequency, rising to 4.2 GHz with Intel Turbo Boost. Turbo speeds are short bursts, so sustained speed depends on the workload and on how well the laptop sheds heat.

The 20GB of DDR4 RAM is the upgraded part of this configuration. In general, more memory helps when you keep many browser tabs, documents and applications open together, because the system has less need to shuffle data out to storage. The seller states that upgraded units are opened, tested and fitted with the upgrades before they are sold.

Storage that boots quickly

The 1TB drive is a PCIe NVMe M.2 SSD. Solid-state drives have no moving parts and typically start the system, open programs and copy files far faster than older hard disks. A terabyte is enough for a large document library, a photo collection and plenty of programs.

The 15.6-inch Full HD screen

The IPS panel runs at 1920 x 1080 with a 16:9 aspect ratio and narrow bezels, giving an 83% screen-to-body ratio. IPS panels generally keep colour and brightness consistent when viewed from the side, which helps when you share the screen. The keyboard includes a numeric keypad, useful for spreadsheets and accounting work.

Graphics, sound and camera

Graphics come from Intel Iris Xe, integrated into the processor. It handles video, light photo editing and casual games, but it is not a replacement for a dedicated graphics card in demanding titles. The laptop has dual stereo speakers and an HD 720p webcam for video calls.

Ports and connectivity

The listing gives the ports as one USB-A 3.2 Gen 1, two USB-A 2.0, one USB-C 3.2 Gen 1, one HDMI 2.0, a headphone/microphone combo jack and the AC power input. Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are built in. The power supply is a 45 W external adapter, and the laptop runs Windows 11 Home.

Size and weight

It measures about 14.2 x 9.3 x 0.8 inches (36 x 24 x 2 cm) and weighs 5.4 lb (about 2.4 kg). That is easy enough to carry in a backpack, though it is on the heavier side for a daily commute.

What to check before you buy

  • Whether Intel Iris Xe graphics are enough for the software and games you use.
  • How you will connect peripherals: only one USB-C port is listed, and the listing does not describe it as charging the laptop.
  • Whether a 1920 x 1080 screen suits your work, or you need a higher resolution.
  • Warranty and return terms for a configuration that has been upgraded after leaving the manufacturer.
  • Weight and battery needs if you will carry it every day.
  • That Windows 11 Home has the features you need for work use.
