The ASUS Vivobook 14 X1407QA-BS56 is a thin 14-inch laptop built around a Qualcomm Snapdragon X processor rather than a traditional Intel or AMD chip. It has 16GB of memory, a 512GB SSD and Windows 11, and it carries the Copilot+ PC label. At 0.7 inches thick and 3.3 lb, it is aimed at everyday work, study and travel.

The Snapdragon X processor

The Snapdragon X 8-core SE uses an Arm-based design. Arm chips are known for power efficiency, and ASUS says this one gives multi-day battery life and up to 19 hours of use. Those are brand figures, and real battery life depends on what you do and how bright the screen is. Windows on Arm runs many apps natively. Others run through a translation layer, and some specialised software or older hardware drivers may not work, so check the programs you rely on.

Copilot+ and the NPU

The chip has a Qualcomm Hexagon NPU rated at up to 45 TOPS. An NPU is a processor for AI tasks, and 45 TOPS is the level Microsoft sets for Copilot+ PCs. ASUS lists features such as Recall, which helps search through past activity, Live Captions for translating speech, and image generation from text prompts. Availability and settings of these features can change with Windows updates, so check Microsoft's current information.

The graphics

The integrated Qualcomm Adreno GPU, which ASUS describes as a sliced architecture, handles the display and light graphics work. It is meant for everyday use rather than demanding games, and compatibility for games on Arm can vary.

The display

The 14-inch screen is WUXGA, 1920 x 1200 pixels, in a 16:10 shape. Compared with a 16:9 screen, 16:10 gives a little more vertical room for documents and web pages. ASUS lists 300 nits of sustained brightness and a 60Hz refresh rate. That is fine for office work and video, though 300 nits is best suited to indoor use.

Memory and storage

The laptop has 16GB of RAM, comfortable for many browser tabs and office applications, and a 512GB SSD. The listing mentions PCIe 4.0 SSDs, a fast storage interface that cuts load and file-copy times. Memory is usually soldered on laptops of this kind, so it cannot be upgraded later, and you should confirm that in the manual.

Size and weight

The Vivobook measures about 12.4 x 8.8 inches and is 0.7 inches thick. It weighs 3.3 lb (about 1.5 kg), easy to carry in a bag for commuting or classes.

Who it suits

It suits students, remote workers and travellers who want a light laptop with long battery life for browsing, documents, video calls and streaming. It is less suited to people who depend on software that only runs on x86 chips.

What to check before you buy

  • Software: confirm that your key apps and any printers or peripherals work on Windows on Arm.
  • Ports: check the port list for what you need, such as HDMI, USB-A or a card reader.
  • Display: 300 nits and 60Hz suit indoor work; consider your lighting.
  • Storage: decide whether 512GB is enough, or whether you will rely on external drives or cloud storage.
  • AI features: read what is available in your region and what you need to switch on.
