The ASUS VivoBook 14 is a thin, light 14-inch laptop aimed at everyday work, study and browsing. This configuration pairs a 12th Gen Intel Core i3 processor with an unusually large 40GB of memory and a 1TB solid-state drive, and it ships with Windows 11 Pro. Here is what those numbers mean in practice.

What the Core i3-1215U brings

The processor is an Intel Core i3-1215U with six cores: two Performance-cores and four Efficient-cores, handling eight threads. Its base clock is 2.0GHz and it can boost to 4.4GHz with Intel Turbo Boost, backed by 10MB of cache. Performance-cores take on demanding tasks, while Efficient-cores handle background work in a way that typically saves power.

This is a chip designed for office software, web browsing, video calls and streaming rather than heavy video editing or modern 3D games. Graphics come from Intel UHD, which is built into the processor.

Why 40GB of memory is notable

Most laptops in this class ship with 8GB or 16GB. The listing gives 40GB of DDR4, which leaves plenty of headroom for many browser tabs, spreadsheets, virtual machines or several applications open together. More memory mainly helps when you keep a lot open at once. It does not make the processor itself faster, so the i3 still sets the ceiling for raw speed.

Storage, display and sound

The 1TB PCIe SSD is the main drive. Compared with older hard drives, an SSD typically means quicker start-up, faster app launches and faster file transfers. There is no optical drive.

The 14-inch screen is Full HD (1920 x 1080) with thin bezels, a 16:9 shape, a 60Hz refresh rate and 250 nits of brightness. ASUS lists a 45% NTSC colour gamut, which is a modest range suited to documents and video rather than colour-critical photo work. Audio comes from built-in speakers tuned with ASUS SonicMaster.

Connections and battery

Wireless is MediaTek Wi-Fi 6E (2x2) with Bluetooth 5.3. Wi-Fi 6E adds access to the 6GHz band, but only if your router supports it. Ports include:

  • 1 x USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-C
  • 2 x USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A
  • 1 x USB 2.0 Type-A
  • 1 x HDMI 1.4
  • 1 x headphone/microphone combo jack
  • 1 x coaxial-style power jack

The 3-cell, 42Wh battery is rated at up to 8 hours of non-gaming use. Actual time depends on screen brightness and what you are running. A 720p camera with a privacy shutter sits above the screen.

Size and weight

The laptop measures about 12.8 x 8.4 x 0.7 inches (roughly 32.5 x 21.4 x 1.8 cm) and weighs 3.09 lb (about 1.4 kg), in a colour ASUS calls Quiet Blue. That makes it easy to carry between home, campus and the office.

Who it suits

It suits students, home-office workers and anyone who runs a lot of everyday programs at once and wants a light machine. It is less suited to demanding gaming or professional graphics work, which call for a dedicated graphics chip.

What to check before you buy

  • Workload: confirm that an entry-level Core i3 meets the needs of the software you use.
  • Screen: a 60Hz, 250-nit panel with a modest colour gamut is fine for documents but not for colour-critical work.
  • Ports: there is one USB-C port, and the listing does not mention video output or charging over it, so check before relying on a dock.
  • Charging: the power connector is a coaxial plug, so a USB-C charger will not substitute.
  • Windows edition: Windows 11 Pro includes business features that Home does not. Check that you need them.
  • What's in the box: the listing mentions a recovery USB drive. Confirm accessories and warranty terms with the seller.

The short version

  • A 14-inch, 3.09 lb ASUS VivoBook in Quiet Blue.
  • Intel Core i3-1215U (6 cores, up to 4.4GHz), 40GB DDR4 and a 1TB PCIe SSD.
  • Full HD 60Hz screen, Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.3 and a 42Wh battery rated at up to 8 hours.
  • USB-C, USB-A and HDMI ports, plus a privacy-shutter camera.
  • Suited to everyday multitasking, not demanding games.
