The ASUS TUF Gaming GeForce RTX 4060 Ti OC Edition is a graphics card for desktop PCs, built around NVIDIA's Ada Lovelace architecture. It has 8GB of GDDR6 memory, a factory overclock and ASUS's TUF cooling and build features. This page explains what the listed specs mean in practice.
The Ada Lovelace architecture
The card uses NVIDIA's Ada Lovelace generation. NVIDIA says its streaming multiprocessors deliver up to twice the performance and power efficiency of the previous generation. The listing names three main parts:
- Streaming multiprocessors: the general-purpose units that do most graphics work.
- 4th generation Tensor Cores: AI hardware used for DLSS. NVIDIA says it gives up to 4x performance with DLSS 3 compared with brute-force rendering.
- 3rd generation RT Cores: dedicated hardware for ray tracing, which NVIDIA says gives up to 2x ray tracing performance.
These are NVIDIA's own "up to" figures and depend on the game and settings.
What DLSS 3 does
DLSS uses AI to render at a lower resolution and then upscale the image, and DLSS 3 can also generate extra frames. In supported games it can raise frame rates noticeably. It only works in games that include support, so check the titles you play.
The OC edition clock speeds
ASUS lists 2655 MHz in OC mode and 2625 MHz in default mode. The OC edition ships with a higher boost clock than the reference design, and the mode is typically switched through ASUS software. Clock speed alone does not decide performance, and the real-world gain from a factory overclock is usually modest.
Memory, interface and outputs
The card has 8GB of GDDR6 video memory. Memory size matters for high-resolution textures and for some newer games at high settings, so consider the resolution you play at. It uses a PCIe 4.0 interface, which is backward-compatible with older PCIe slots and typically works in a PCIe 3.0 slot too. The outputs are HDMI 2.1a and DisplayPort 1.4a, which suit modern monitors and TVs.
Cooling and build
ASUS says the Axial-tech fans are scaled up for 21% more airflow, and describes a vented exoskeleton and military-grade capacitors. Better airflow typically means lower temperatures and quieter fan speeds under load, but the figure is ASUS's own comparison.
Size and fitting
The card is about 11.8 in (30 cm) long and 5.5 in tall, and the listing gives a thin depth figure that does not describe the real thickness of the cooler. Check the card's slot width on the ASUS specification page against your case.
Who it suits
It suits gamers building or upgrading a desktop PC who play at 1080p or 1440p, and people who want DLSS 3 and ray tracing support in a card with ASUS's TUF cooling.
What to check before you buy
- Case clearance: check length, height and slot thickness against the space in your case.
- Power: check ASUS's recommended power supply and the connector the card needs.
- Motherboard slot: a PCIe x16 slot is required.
- Monitor ports: match HDMI 2.1a or DisplayPort 1.4a to your display.
- Memory needs: think about the resolution and games you plan to run.
- Drivers: install the current NVIDIA driver after fitting.
The short version
- A desktop graphics card with the RTX 4060 Ti GPU and 8GB of GDDR6.
- Ada Lovelace, 4th generation Tensor Cores, 3rd generation RT Cores and DLSS 3.
- 2655 MHz in OC mode and 2625 MHz in default mode.
- PCIe 4.0, HDMI 2.1a and DisplayPort 1.4a.
