The ASUS TUF Gaming M4 Wireless is a compact, lightweight gaming mouse that connects by Bluetooth or a 2.4 GHz wireless link. It has six programmable buttons and a 12,000 dpi optical sensor, and it runs on a single AA or AAA battery. This page explains what those specs mean for everyday and competitive use.
Two ways to connect
The mouse offers dual wireless modes. The 2.4 GHz mode uses a dedicated radio link and is generally the choice for gaming because it keeps latency low. Bluetooth lets it pair directly with laptops, tablets and other devices without using up a USB port. ASUS says both modes provide a stable connection. Switching between them suits people who game on a desktop and work on a laptop.
What 12,000 dpi means
DPI (dots per inch) describes how far the cursor moves on screen for each inch the mouse travels. A higher figure means a more sensitive mouse, so a small hand movement can sweep across a large display. ASUS lists a high-precision 12,000 dpi optical sensor and a DPI switch with an indicator, so you can change sensitivity on the fly. Most players use only a fraction of the maximum, so the useful point is the flexibility to set the speed you prefer.
Six programmable buttons
There are six buttons: left and right click, a clickable scroll wheel, a DPI button and two buttons on the left side. ASUS says the main buttons are separated from the top cover, which lowers the force and travel needed for a click. Armoury Crate software lets you create profiles, map buttons and adjust performance settings.
Weight, shape and glide
The mouse weighs 62 grams, which ASUS says is with its figures marked as approximate. The body is an ambidextrous shape, meaning it is symmetrical in form. The feet are 100% PTFE, a slippery material commonly used for smooth glide across mouse pads.
Batteries and surface
The M4 Wireless works with AA or AAA cells. A bundled AAA-to-AA converter lets you use the smaller battery, which ASUS says cuts weight by about 10%. The top cover and side buttons use PBT plastic, which ASUS says resists wear and shine, and the surface is described as alcohol-safe for cleaning. ASUS also mentions an ionic silver treatment on the surfaces.
Who it suits
It suits players who want a light, symmetrical mouse without a cable, and users who prefer the convenience of replaceable batteries to a built-in rechargeable. Its compact size, around 6 x 4 x 2 inches in the listing, tends to suit small to medium hands better than very large ones.
What to check before you buy
- Hand size and grip: a compact body may feel small if you have large hands or use a palm grip.
- Battery type: have an AA or AAA battery ready, and check how the converter is used.
- Connection: confirm your computer has a free USB port for the 2.4 GHz receiver, or Bluetooth support.
- Software: Armoury Crate is needed for profile and button customization; check it supports your operating system.
- Compatibility: check the manual for supported systems and features.
- Left-handed use: the shape is ambidextrous, but the two side buttons are on the left side only.
