The ASUS ROG Gladius II Core is a lightweight, wired optical gaming mouse with a right-handed ergonomic shape. It has a 6200 DPI sensor, side grips, Aura Sync lighting, and a switch-socket design that lets the main buttons be swapped without soldering.
The sensor and DPI
The mouse uses a PAW3327 optical sensor with up to 6200 DPI, according to ASUS. DPI (dots per inch) describes how far the cursor moves for a given hand movement. A higher setting moves the cursor further, so it suits large or high-resolution screens, while lower values give finer control. Most players use a modest setting and adjust it to taste, so the maximum matters less than how smoothly the sensor tracks. ASUS describes the tracking as fast and accurate.
Switch-socket design
The ROG-exclusive push-fit switch sockets are the headline feature. Instead of the switches being soldered to the circuit board, they sit in sockets and push into place. ASUS says this lets you vary click resistance by fitting different switches, and extend the life of the mouse, since a worn switch can be replaced. Check the manual or ASUS's guidance on compatible switches and how to remove the cover.
Shape and grip
ASUS describes classic Gladius ergonomics: discrete left and right buttons, a light body, and durable non-slip side grips etched with the ROG totem. Discrete buttons means the left and right clicks are separate pieces, not a single plate, which many players prefer for a clearer click. The mouse is a wired model, so there is no battery to charge and no wireless delay. It measures about 5.0 x 2.6 inches (12.7 x 6.6 cm) and weighs around 0.2 lb (roughly 90 g).
Hand size and grip style matter a lot with a mouse. The shape is designed for right-handed use, and fits palm and claw grips more naturally than fingertip grips for many people.
Software and lighting
ASUS Armoury II software lets you customize button assignments, performance settings and lighting. Aura Sync lighting can be matched with other compatible ASUS hardware in the same system.
Who it suits
It suits PC players who want a wired, lightweight mouse with a familiar shape, and those who like the idea of replaceable switches. Left-handed users should look for a symmetrical design instead.
What to check before you buy
- Hand size and grip: think about whether the shape suits your hand and the way you hold a mouse.
- Handedness: the shape favours right-handed use.
- Software: Armoury II is a Windows program, so check that it supports your system if you want to customize settings.
- Cable and ports: it connects by cable to a USB port, so check your reach.
- Replacement switches: if you want to use the swap feature, check which switches fit.
- Surface: use a mouse pad suited to optical sensors.
