The ASUS TUF Gaming GeForce GTX 1660 Ti EVO OC Edition (model TUF-GTX1660TI-O6G-EVO-GAMING) is a graphics card with 6GB of GDDR6 memory, built on NVIDIA's Turing architecture. It is a compact two-fan card for gaming PCs that need a dedicated GPU for 1080p-class play and game capture.

The GPU and memory

The GTX 1660 Ti is part of NVIDIA's Turing generation, but it does not include the dedicated ray-tracing cores found on RTX cards. ASUS gives the memory speed as 12 Gbps, with 6GB of GDDR6. Video memory holds textures and frame data, and 6GB is typically enough for many games at 1080p, though newer titles may ask for more at high settings.

OC edition clock speeds

The OC edition ships with a factory overclock. ASUS lists a boost clock of 1845 MHz in OC mode and 1815 MHz in Gaming mode. The boost clock is the speed the GPU can reach under load when power and temperature allow, so it is a ceiling and real figures vary with the game and the cooling. Modes can be switched with the GPU Tweak II software that ASUS mentions.

Display outputs

The card has HDMI 2.0b and DisplayPort 1.4 outputs. ASUS lists a maximum digital resolution of 7680 x 4320. That is a ceiling for the outputs, not a promise about gaming at 8K. In practice this card is aimed at 1080p, and sometimes 1440p.

Streaming and capture

ASUS points to the card's dedicated hardware encoder, optimized for Open Broadcaster Software (OBS). A hardware encoder handles video compression on the GPU instead of the processor, which can leave more CPU time for the game while streaming or recording. NVIDIA's GeForce Experience software is also mentioned for capturing clips and screenshots, updating drivers and tuning game settings.

Cooling and durability

TUF is ASUS's durability-focused line. The card uses two fans with what ASUS calls space-grade lubricant, meant to bring the durability of dual ball bearings to quieter sleeve bearing designs. The fans are also rated IP5X for dust resistance. ASUS adds Auto-Extreme manufacturing and TUF compatibility testing.

Size and interface

The card uses PCIe 3.0 and measures about 8.1 x 4.9 x 1.8 inches (about 20.5 x 12.4 x 4.6 cm), weighing 1.4 lb (about 0.64 kg). The compact size and the dual-slot-class thickness make it easier to fit in smaller cases. It works in newer PCIe slots as well, since they are backward compatible.

Who it suits

It suits a PC builder or upgrader who wants a compact card for 1080p gaming, streaming and recording, or who is refreshing an older system.

What to check before you buy

  • Case clearance: check the length and thickness against your case and neighbouring parts.
  • Power: check the power supply wattage and connector needed. ASUS's specifications list the details.
  • Monitor connections: confirm your display uses HDMI or DisplayPort.
  • Games you play: compare your target titles' recommended specs and memory needs.
  • Software: ASUS says to avoid unofficial software; use the official drivers and tools.

The short version

  • A compact two-fan GTX 1660 Ti with 6GB GDDR6 at 12 Gbps.
  • OC edition: 1845 MHz boost in OC mode, 1815 MHz in Gaming mode.
  • HDMI 2.0b and DisplayPort 1.4 outputs.
  • Hardware encoder for OBS streaming; PCIe 3.0.
  • Dust-resistant (IP5X) fans with space-grade lubricant.
