The ASUS TUF Gaming GeForce RTX 4070 Super OC Edition is a graphics card with 12GB of GDDR6X memory, built on NVIDIA's Ada Lovelace architecture. ASUS's TUF line emphasises durability and steady cooling. Here is what its listed features mean for a gaming PC.

Ada Lovelace, DLSS 3 and ray tracing

The card uses NVIDIA's Ada Lovelace architecture with full ray tracing, a lighting method that simulates how light behaves in a scene. Third-generation RT cores give, per the listing, up to twice the ray tracing performance. Fourth-generation Tensor cores power DLSS 3, an AI technology that upscales images and can generate extra frames. NVIDIA says it gives up to four times the performance of brute-force rendering in supported games. These gains depend on a game supporting DLSS 3.

Memory and clocks

The 12GB of GDDR6X memory is the pool the card uses for textures and frame data, and more helps at higher resolutions and detail settings. The OC Edition runs at 2595 MHz in OC mode and 2565 MHz in Default mode. GPU Tweak III, ASUS's software, lets you adjust performance, thermals and monitor the system.

Cooling and fans

ASUS says the Axial-tech fans are scaled up for 21% more airflow. Dual ball fan bearings are said to last up to twice as long as conventional designs. A vented exoskeleton adds structural rigidity and vents to help with heat. In general, better airflow allows a card to hold its clocks with less noise.

Durability features

ASUS lists military-grade capacitors rated for 20,000 hours at 105°C on the GPU power rail. It also cites Auto-Extreme automated manufacturing for higher reliability and a compact PCB. These are the brand's claims about longevity, not guarantees.

Outputs and the PCIe slot

The card has HDMI 2.1a and DisplayPort 1.4a outputs and a PCIe 4.0 interface. It also works in a PCIe 3.0 slot, with the slot setting the bandwidth limit. The listing's weight is 2.6 lb and its length is about 11.9 inches; the size shown for height is not meaningful, so check the card's thickness in the ASUS specification.

Who it suits

It suits gamers building or upgrading a PC for 1440p play, or for demanding games with ray tracing and DLSS, who want a card designed around durability.

What to check before you buy

  • Case fit: confirm length, thickness and slot count against your case.
  • Power supply: check NVIDIA's and ASUS's recommended wattage and the power connectors required.
  • Motherboard and CPU: a PCIe x16 slot is needed, and the processor should not hold the card back.
  • Monitor connections: confirm your display can use HDMI 2.1a or DisplayPort 1.4a.
  • Game support: check whether the games you play offer DLSS 3.

The short version

  • NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 Super on Ada Lovelace with 12GB GDDR6X and PCIe 4.0.
  • OC mode at 2595 MHz, Default mode at 2565 MHz.
  • DLSS 3, 4th-gen Tensor cores and 3rd-gen RT cores.
  • Axial-tech fans, dual ball bearings and military-grade capacitors.
  • HDMI 2.1a and DisplayPort 1.4a outputs.
