The ASUS TUF Gaming F17 (FX707ZC-ES52) is a 17.3-inch gaming laptop built around an Intel Core i5-12500H processor and an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 graphics chip. It runs Windows 11 and is aimed at people who want a larger screen for games and general work. Here is what the main specs mean.

Processor and graphics

The Core i5-12500H is a 12th Gen Intel mobile processor from the H series, which is the higher-power tier for laptops. ASUS pairs it with the RTX 3050 Laptop GPU at a maximum graphics power of 95W. Total graphics power matters because the same GPU name can perform differently depending on how much power the laptop gives it. A higher figure lets the chip run faster, provided the cooling keeps up.

Memory and storage

The laptop has 8GB of DDR4-3200 memory and a 1TB PCIe Gen3 SSD. 8GB is enough for many games and everyday tasks, but heavy multitasking benefits from more. ASUS says storage upgrades are easy because there is an additional SSD slot, which means you can add a second drive rather than replace the first. Check the manual before opening the case.

The 144Hz display

The 17.3-inch screen is Full HD (1920 x 1080) with a 144Hz IPS-level panel. A 144Hz refresh rate redraws the image 144 times a second, versus 60 on a typical office screen, which makes fast motion look smoother. ASUS says Adaptive-Sync lets the display match the GPU's output to reduce stutter and tearing.

MUX Switch

Laptops with both integrated and dedicated graphics usually route the image through the integrated chip. A MUX switch lets the dedicated GPU send frames straight to the display. ASUS says this raises gaming performance by 5-10 per cent.

Cooling and durability

The cooling system uses two 84-blade Arc Flow Fans, which ASUS says are designed for the high-power CPU. ASUS also says the F17 is built to meet MIL-STD-810H test methods, covering drops, vibration, humidity and extreme temperatures. That is a brand claim about the testing standard, not a promise that it is indestructible.

Extras

The listing includes a 90-day Xbox Game Pass Ultimate offer. Wi-Fi 6 handles wireless networking.

Size and weight

It measures about 15.6 x 10.4 inches and 0.9 inches thick (roughly 40 x 26 x 2.3 cm) and weighs 5.7 lb (about 2.6 kg). That is portable for a 17-inch laptop, but it is not a thin-and-light machine.

What to check before you buy

  • Games: compare the game's recommended specs with an RTX 3050 and 8GB of memory.
  • Memory: decide whether 8GB will be enough for your workload.
  • Storage: check whether 1TB suits your library, and the spare slot if you need more.
  • Size: a 17-inch laptop needs a larger bag and desk space.
  • Battery and charger: the power brick is part of the weight you carry.
  • Offers: the Game Pass promotion may have terms and regional limits.
