The ASUS TUF Gaming F16 (2025), model FX608JH-SS53, is a 16-inch gaming laptop that pairs an Intel Core i5-13450HX processor with an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5050 laptop GPU. It is aimed at people who want to play current PC games on one portable machine and also use it for everyday work and study.
What the processor and graphics do
The Core i5-13450HX belongs to Intel's HX family, which is made for laptops that need desktop-style multi-core performance. In general, that helps with games, streaming and tasks that use many threads at once. The graphics side is handled by the GeForce RTX 5050 Laptop GPU, which ASUS lists with a maximum total graphics power (TGP) of 115W. TGP is the power allowance the manufacturer sets for the GPU, and a higher figure typically lets the chip hold higher clock speeds.
The laptop also supports NVIDIA Advanced Optimus. Optimus-style systems switch between the processor's integrated graphics for light tasks and the dedicated GPU for demanding ones, which usually saves battery when you are not gaming.
A 165Hz display with a taller shape
The screen is 16 inches, FHD+ and 16:10, with a 165Hz refresh rate. FHD+ means a resolution a little taller than standard full HD, and the 16:10 shape gives more vertical room for documents and web pages. A 165Hz panel redraws the picture 165 times a second, which makes fast motion look smoother than on a 60Hz screen, provided the game can produce that many frames.
ASUS states 100% sRGB colour coverage, which is the standard colour range for most web content and games. It also lists Adaptive-Sync, which matches the screen's refresh to the frames the GPU delivers to reduce tearing and stutter.
Memory and storage
The laptop has 16GB of DDR5 memory and a 512GB PCIe Gen4 SSD. Sixteen gigabytes is a common starting point for gaming, though large modern games can take tens of gigabytes each, so 512GB can fill quickly. Gen4 is a fast SSD interface that typically shortens load times compared with older drives. Whether the memory or storage can be upgraded depends on the model, so check ASUS's documentation.
Cooling, build and sound
ASUS fits 2nd Gen Arc Flow Fans, a full-width heatsink and a full-width vent, and says they cool the laptop without adding extra noise. Gaming laptops under load will still produce some fan noise, so treat that as a design aim rather than a guarantee of silence.
As a TUF model, the F16 is tested to the MIL-STD-810H military standard, according to ASUS. That standard covers things like drops, vibration and temperature, but it is not a promise that the laptop is indestructible. For sound, ASUS lists Dolby Atmos and Hi-Res audio. The design is understated, with an embossed TUF logo on the lid. It runs Windows 11 Home and has Wi-Fi 6E for wireless connections. It measures about 13.9 x 10.6 inches (35 x 27 cm), is 0.7 inches (about 1.8 cm) thick and weighs 4.9 lb (about 2.2 kg).
Who it suits
It suits students and players who want one machine for games, schoolwork and creative apps, and who prefer a larger screen over a thinner, lighter laptop. At about 2.2 kg plus the charger, it is a laptop to carry between desk and bag occasionally rather than all day.
What to check before you buy
- Games and software: check the recommended specs of the titles you play against the GPU and memory.
- Storage: decide whether 512GB is enough, or whether you will need external or upgraded storage.
- Weight and size: confirm it fits your bag and your carrying habits.
- Ports: check the listed ports against your monitor, headset and accessories.
- Charger and power: the high-power GPU needs the supplied charger for full performance.
- Warranty and support: check the terms from ASUS for your region.
