The ASUS TUF Gaming F15 (FX506LH-AS51) is a 15.6-inch gaming laptop built around an Intel Core i5-10300H processor and an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 graphics chip. It aims at people who want to play PC games and handle everyday multitasking on a machine they can carry between desk and bag. Here is what the main specifications mean in practice.

The processor, memory and graphics

The Core i5-10300H has four cores and a boost speed of up to 4.5 GHz, with 8MB of cache, according to ASUS. Four cores with eight threads is typically enough for current games, browsing, streaming software and office work running together. The laptop has 8GB of DDR4 memory running at 2933MHz. That is a workable starting point, though modern games and heavy multitasking often benefit from more, which is why the upgrade design matters (see below).

Graphics come from a GeForce GTX 1650 with 4GB of GDDR6 memory. This is an entry-level gaming GPU in general terms: it suits esports titles and many popular games at Full HD with sensible settings, but it does not include the hardware ray tracing found in RTX cards. The listing does mention "RTX gaming experience" in its storage bullet, but the graphics chip itself is named as a GTX 1650.

A 144Hz Full HD display

The 15.6-inch screen is Full HD (1920 x 1080) with an IPS-type panel and a 144Hz refresh rate. Refresh rate is how many times per second the picture updates. A 144Hz panel can show up to 144 frames per second, which typically makes fast motion look smoother than on a standard 60Hz screen, as long as the game itself runs at high frame rates.

Storage and how easy it is to upgrade

The 512GB drive is a PCIe NVMe M.2 SSD, which loads games and the operating system much faster than a traditional hard drive. ASUS also describes an easy upgrade design with a pop-open screw, so memory and storage can be added or replaced. Check the manual or ASUS support pages for which slots and maximum capacities apply to this exact model.

Build, cooling and keyboard

ASUS says the TUF line is tested to the MIL-STD-810H military standard for drops, vibration, humidity and extreme temperatures. That is a testing standard, not a promise that the laptop is indestructible, so it still needs ordinary care. The cooling system uses self-cleaning dual fans with anti-dust technology, which ASUS says extends system life. The backlit keyboard is rated for 20 million keystrokes.

Connectivity and battery

The laptop has Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax) and Bluetooth 5.2, a 720p camera and a 90Wh three-cell lithium-ion battery. It runs Windows 11 Home. It measures 14.1 x 10.1 x 1.0 inches (about 36 x 26 x 2.5 cm) and weighs 6.0 lb (about 2.7 kg), so it is a full-size gaming machine rather than an ultraportable.

Who it suits

It suits students and casual to intermediate gamers who want a Windows laptop for games, schoolwork and streaming, and who like the idea of upgrading memory or storage later.

What to check before you buy

  • Games you play: compare the recommended graphics and memory in your favourite titles with a GTX 1650 and 8GB of RAM.
  • Upgrade plans: confirm the memory and storage options in the ASUS manual.
  • Weight and power brick: 6 lb plus a charger adds up in a bag.
  • Ports: check the full port list on the ASUS site for your needs.
  • Keyboard layout: the listing says QWERTY.
  • Software: confirm the operating system and any bundled software.

The short version

  • 15.6-inch Full HD IPS-type display at 144Hz.
  • Intel Core i5-10300H, GeForce GTX 1650 (4GB), 8GB DDR4.
  • 512GB PCIe NVMe SSD, with a pop-open design for upgrades.
  • Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.2, 90Wh battery, MIL-STD-810H testing.
  • 6.0 lb, so portable but not light.
