The ASUS TUF Gaming F15 (FX506HF-ES51) is a 15.6-inch gaming laptop in graphite black. It pairs an Intel Core i5-11400H processor with a GeForce RTX 2050 graphics chip and a 144Hz display. It is built for gaming, but the same hardware handles streaming, study and general multitasking.
The processor and memory
The Core i5-11400H is a six-core chip that ASUS lists as reaching up to 4.5 GHz with 12MB of cache. Six cores are typically enough to game while running chat or a browser alongside. The laptop comes with 8GB of DDR4 memory running at 3200MHz. That is adequate for most games and everyday tasks, but heavy multitasking or large projects can use more, so check whether the memory can be upgraded in the manual.
Graphics: GeForce RTX 2050
The graphics chip is an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2050 with 4GB of GDDR6 memory, running at 70W with Dynamic Boost. Dynamic Boost shifts power between processor and graphics depending on the workload. The 4GB of video memory suits Full HD gaming, and some recent games may need lower texture settings.
The 144Hz display
The screen is a 15.6-inch Full HD (1920 x 1080) IPS-type panel with a 144Hz refresh rate. A higher refresh rate makes motion look smoother, provided the game runs at high frame rates. Full HD at this size gives sharp text, and IPS panels typically have wide viewing angles.
Storage and ports
Storage is a 512GB PCIe NVMe M.2 SSD (Gen 3), which loads games and Windows 11 quickly. A modern game library can fill 512GB sooner than you might expect, so check how much you plan to install. Ports include an RJ45 Ethernet port, three USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A ports and a USB Type-C port with Thunderbolt 4 and DisplayPort support. Wi-Fi 6 is included for wireless connections.
Built to the TUF standard
ASUS says TUF devices meet the MIL-STD-810H military standard and are tested against drops, vibration, humidity and extreme temperatures. That is a test standard, not a guarantee against damage, and a laptop still needs sensible care.
Size and weight
The laptop weighs 7.7 lb (about 3.5 kg), which is typical for a 15.6-inch gaming laptop. It is portable enough for a bag, but the weight and the power adapter are worth keeping in mind for daily commutes.
Who it suits
It suits students and gamers who want one machine for play and for work, and who are happy with Full HD graphics settings. It is less suited to people who need long battery life or very light carrying.
What to check before you buy
- Games you play: compare their recommended specs with 4GB of video memory and 8GB of RAM.
- Upgrades: check the manual for memory and storage upgrade options.
- Weight: 7.7 lb is noticeable if you carry it daily.
- Battery life: gaming laptops typically run for far less time unplugged than they do plugged in.
- Ports: confirm that the port selection covers your monitor, mouse and headset.
