The ASUS TUF Gaming A16 (2024), model FA608WI-AB96, is a 16-inch gaming laptop built around an AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 processor and an NVIDIA GeForce RTX laptop graphics chip. It aims at people who want one machine for games, creative work and everyday computing, and it is also sold as a Copilot+ PC for Windows 11. Here is what the main specs mean.
The processor and its AI claims
The Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 combines CPU cores, integrated graphics and a neural processing unit (NPU). ASUS says the NPU delivers up to 50 TOPs of AI performance. TOPs measure trillions of operations per second, and the figure matters mainly for on-device AI features, which can run on the NPU instead of the CPU or graphics chip. That is what the "Copilot+ PC" label refers to: features such as Recall, Live Captions and text-to-image generation. ASUS notes that these experiences need updates that arrive after purchase, with timing that varies by device and region.
Graphics, memory and storage
The graphics chip is where gaming performance is mostly decided. The listing names the GPU as an RTX 4070 Laptop GPU in one place and an RTX 4060 in another, so it is worth confirming which one is fitted before relying on either figure. NVIDIA Advanced Optimus, which ASUS lists, lets the laptop switch between the integrated and dedicated graphics to suit the workload.
Memory is 32GB of LPDDR5X. In most laptops this type is soldered to the board, so the amount is typically fixed at purchase. For games, browsers, editing software and many programs open together, 32GB leaves plenty of room. Storage is a 1TB PCIe 4.0 SSD, which typically loads games and large files much faster than a hard drive.
The display
The screen is 16 inches with a 16:10 aspect ratio, which gives a little more vertical space than a 16:9 panel for documents, code and timelines. ASUS lists 2.5K resolution, a 165Hz refresh rate and NVIDIA G-SYNC. A higher refresh rate shows more frames per second, which makes motion look smoother, provided the GPU can produce the frames. ASUS quotes slim bezels and a 90% screen-to-body ratio.
Build and cooling
TUF laptops are tested to the MIL-STD-810H US military standard. ASUS says this covers conditions such as drops, vibration, humidity and temperature extremes. It is a set of test procedures, not a guarantee against damage, so careful handling still applies.
For cooling, ASUS lists Arc Flow Fans, four exhaust vents, five heat pipes and an anti-dust filter. Gaming laptops rely on this hardware to hold performance under sustained load, and ASUS says it keeps noise down.
Audio, connectivity and size
The laptop supports Dolby Atmos and Hi-Res Audio, and ASUS describes two-way AI noise cancellation that cleans up both your microphone and incoming voices on calls. Wi-Fi 6E is listed. The laptop measures 13.9 x 10.6 inches, is 0.7 inches thick and weighs 4.9 lb (about 2.2 kg), which is on the portable side for a 16-inch gaming machine.
Who it suits
It suits people who want a large-screen laptop for PC gaming and also want headroom for video editing, streaming or software work. Those who value Copilot+ features will find them listed here.
What to check before you buy
- The exact GPU: the listing mentions two different RTX chips, so confirm which one is in your configuration.
- Ports: check that the connections you need, such as HDMI, USB-C or an SD reader, are present.
- Power and size: gaming laptops use a large power adapter; check it fits your carrying setup.
- Memory and storage: confirm whether the RAM is soldered and whether a second SSD slot is available if you plan to expand.
- Copilot+ features: some arrive through later updates, so check which are available in your region.
