The ASUS TUF Gaming A15 (2023), model FA507NV-EH74, is a 15.6-inch gaming laptop built around an AMD Ryzen 7 7735HS processor and an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 laptop GPU. It is meant for playing current games on the go and doubles as a general Windows 11 machine for study and work.

Processor, graphics and memory

The Ryzen 7 7735HS is an eight-core mobile processor, and the RTX 4060 laptop GPU runs at up to 140W maximum total graphics power (TGP), according to ASUS. TGP matters because the same-named laptop GPU can perform differently depending on how much power the maker lets it draw. A higher figure generally allows higher sustained performance.

Memory is 16GB of DDR5-4800, and storage is a 1TB PCIe 4.0 x4 SSD. In general, DDR5 offers more bandwidth than DDR4, and a PCIe 4.0 SSD cuts loading times compared with older drives. Sixteen gigabytes is enough for most games and everyday multitasking.

The display

The screen is a 15.6-inch Full HD (1920 x 1080) panel with a 144Hz refresh rate and 100% sRGB colour coverage. A higher refresh rate lets motion look smoother when the laptop can deliver enough frames. ASUS says Adaptive Sync reduces lag, stuttering and tearing. The 100% sRGB figure means the panel covers the standard colour range used by most web content and games.

MUX Switch and Advanced Optimus

Laptops with both integrated and dedicated graphics normally send the dedicated GPU's frames through the integrated one on the way to the screen. A MUX Switch lets the dedicated GPU connect straight to the display instead. ASUS says this raises gaming performance by 5-10%. With Advanced Optimus, switching between the two graphics modes happens automatically depending on the task, which ASUS says helps battery life.

Cooling

The cooling system uses a pair of 84-blade Arc Flow Fans. ASUS says they improve cooling for the high-power CPU without adding noise. Gaming laptops typically get louder under heavy load, so it is worth knowing that the quietness described here is the maker's claim.

Build and software

ASUS says TUF Gaming laptops must pass MIL-STD-810H tests, which cover drops, vibration, humidity and extreme temperatures. This is a US military test standard, and it is not a guarantee against damage. The laptop ships with Windows 11 and a 90-day Xbox Game Pass Ultimate offer, which may depend on availability and region.

What to check before you buy

  • Weight and size. The listing gives dimensions of 13.9 x 9.9 inches, and shipping weight is given as 8.8 lb, so check against what you carry daily.
  • Battery life under gaming load. Gaming laptops are usually used plugged in for demanding games.
  • Whether 16GB of memory and 1TB of storage cover your needs, and whether you are comfortable upgrading either later.
  • The ports you need, and whether you want an external monitor.
  • The charger: gaming laptops often use a large power adapter, so check its size.

The short version

  • A 15.6-inch gaming laptop with a Ryzen 7 7735HS and RTX 4060 laptop GPU (up to 140W TGP).
  • 16GB DDR5-4800 memory and a 1TB PCIe 4.0 SSD.
  • 144Hz Full HD display with 100% sRGB and Adaptive Sync.
  • MUX Switch with Advanced Optimus, dual Arc Flow Fans and MIL-STD-810H testing, as listed by ASUS.
