The ASUS TUF Gaming A15 (2024), model FA506NC-ES51, is a 15.6-inch gaming laptop with an AMD Ryzen 5 7535HS processor and an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 laptop GPU. It runs Windows 11 and is built around a 144Hz Full HD display, and it covers gaming and everyday computing in a mainstream size. Here is what its specs mean.

Processor and graphics

The Ryzen 5 7535HS is a six-core mobile processor from AMD's 7000 series. It handles games, schoolwork, browsing and general multitasking. The graphics chip is the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 Laptop GPU, which ASUS lists at up to 70W TGP with Dynamic Boost. TGP is the total power the graphics chip may use, and Dynamic Boost shifts power between the CPU and GPU depending on which one the current task needs. In general, an RTX 3050 is an entry-level RTX chip, well suited to Full HD gaming at moderate to high settings in many titles, with demanding games needing lower settings.

Memory and storage

Memory is 8GB of DDR5-5600MHz. That is enough for gaming and basic work, though it can feel limited with many programs open at once, so check whether the memory is upgradeable in this model. Storage is a 512GB PCIe 4.0 SSD. PCIe 4.0 drives are typically much faster than hard drives and speed up system start-up and game loading, but 512GB fills quickly with large games.

The display

The screen is 15.6 inches with Full HD (1920 x 1080) resolution and a 144Hz refresh rate. A higher refresh rate means more updates per second and smoother motion than a standard 60Hz laptop screen, provided the graphics chip can keep up. Adaptive-Sync, which ASUS lists, adjusts the refresh rate to the game's frame rate to reduce tearing and stutter.

Cooling and durability

ASUS lists a pair of 84-blade Arc Flow Fans, which it says improve cooling without extra noise. Cooling matters in gaming laptops because heat limits how long performance can stay high. TUF models are tested to the MIL-STD-810H standard, covering drops, vibration, humidity and extreme temperatures, according to ASUS. That describes test procedures; it is not a promise against damage.

Gaming extras

ASUS lists a 90-day Xbox Game Pass Ultimate offer, giving access to over 100 games for that period. Wi-Fi 6 is listed for wireless networking.

Size and weight

The laptop measures about 14.1 x 10.1 inches, is 0.9 inches thick and weighs 7.0 lb (about 3.2 kg), so it's more of a carry-between-rooms laptop than a lightweight travel one.

Who it suits

It suits students and casual to mid-level gamers who want a 15.6-inch laptop that can play popular Full HD games and handle everyday work. It also suits people who prefer a sturdier build.

What to check before you buy

  • Games you play: compare their requirements with an RTX 3050 and 8GB of memory.
  • Upgrades: check the manual for memory and storage upgrade options.
  • Storage space: 512GB may be tight with several large games.
  • Ports: confirm the ones you need, such as HDMI, USB-C and Ethernet, are present.
  • Weight and power adapter: at 7 lb plus a charger, check it suits how you carry it.
