This ASUS ROG wireless gaming mouse (model 90MP0220-BMUA00) has 12 programmable buttons, a 19,000 dpi optical sensor and two ways to connect: wireless over 2.4 GHz or wired by cable. It comes with a magnetic charging stand and is aimed at gamers who want extra buttons for games with many commands, and switches they can customise.

Sensor and polling rate

The sensor is a ROG-tuned optical sensor rated at up to 19,000 dpi. DPI (dots per inch) describes how far the cursor moves for a given hand movement; higher figures mean more cursor travel. Most people use a much lower setting for everyday precision, so the maximum is mainly useful because it gives room to choose a sensitivity that suits your screen resolution and play style.

The polling rate is 1000 Hz in both 2.4 GHz and wired modes. That means the mouse reports its position up to 1,000 times a second, or once per millisecond, which keeps response times short.

Twelve programmable buttons

The 12-button layout is meant for customisation. Extra buttons can be assigned to keyboard shortcuts, macros or in-game actions, which is helpful in strategy games, MMOs and some creative software. The mouse is configured with ASUS's Armoury Crate software, where you can set button functions, DPI levels and lighting. A DPI On-The-Scroll feature lets you change the sensitivity quickly without opening any menus.

Switches you can swap

The mouse uses ROG Micro Switches that ASUS says give consistent click force and a lifespan of 70 million clicks. It also has push-fit switch sockets, which let you change the switches to alter click feel or replace worn ones without soldering. ASUS says the pivoted button mechanism is designed for faster, more responsive clicks. Check the manual for which switches are compatible.

Wireless, wired and battery life

In wireless mode, ASUS rates the battery at up to 67 hours with the RGB lighting turned off. Lighting and heavy use typically shorten that figure. The mouse supports a wired mode, so you can keep playing while it charges, and it comes with a magnetic charging stand.

Cable and lighting

The ROG Paracord is a flexible braided cable, designed to move smoothly and reduce drag when using the mouse in wired mode. The mouse has Aura Sync RGB lighting, which can be coordinated with other compatible ASUS products through Armoury Crate.

Size and weight

The listing gives the mouse a length of 5.4 inches and a width of 3.5 inches, and its weight as 0.4 lb (about 180 g). It is a full-size mouse, so people with smaller hands may want to check the shape in person. Mice with many side buttons typically suit a palm or claw grip.

Who it suits

It suits gamers and power users who like to bind many functions to a single mouse, enjoy tuning their hardware, or want the option of wired and wireless use. It is probably more than you need if you only want a simple pointer for office work.

What to check before you buy

  • Hand size and grip: confirm that the shape and button layout suit your grip.
  • Software: Armoury Crate is used for configuration, so check it supports your operating system.
  • Receiver and ports: check what is included for 2.4 GHz and wired use, and that your computer has a free USB port.
  • Switch compatibility: read the manual before swapping switches.
  • Weight: a 0.4 lb mouse with a cable may feel different from lighter models.
