The ASUS ROG Strix GeForce RTX 4090 White OC Edition is a high-end graphics card with 24GB of GDDR6X memory. It is based on NVIDIA's Ada Lovelace architecture and wrapped in a large, white three-fan cooler, aimed at demanding games, creative work and AI tasks.
What Ada Lovelace brings
NVIDIA's Ada Lovelace generation is the one behind the GeForce RTX 40 series. The listing describes three main upgrades: new Streaming Multiprocessors with up to 2x the performance and power efficiency, 4th generation Tensor Cores with up to 2x AI performance, and 3rd generation RT Cores with up to 2x ray tracing performance. All of these comparisons are NVIDIA's and are measured against the previous generation.
In general, Tensor Cores power AI features such as upscaling and frame generation, while RT Cores handle ray tracing, the realistic lighting and reflections found in many modern games.
24GB of GDDR6X memory
The card carries 24GB of GDDR6X video memory. Large memory helps with 4K gaming at high texture settings, big 3D scenes, video editing and AI workloads that need to hold large models. Many games don't use anywhere near this amount.
The cooling design
ASUS has built the card's cooling around several features:
- Axial-tech fans that ASUS says are scaled up for 23% more airflow.
- A patented vapor chamber with a milled heatspreader, described as lowering GPU temperatures.
- A 3.5-slot design with a large fin array, plus a diecast shroud, frame and backplate that add rigidity and are vented for airflow.
The fan design is aimed at keeping the card cool and quiet under load, though noise depends on the case and the fan curve you choose.
Power delivery and software
The card uses digital power control with high-current power stages and 15K capacitors, described as supplying maximum performance. GPU Tweak III software lets you adjust performance, thermal controls and monitor the system. "OC Edition" means the card ships with a factory overclock over NVIDIA's reference speeds.
Connections and size
Outputs are HDMI 2.1a and DisplayPort 1.4a, and the interface is PCIe 4.0. The card measures about 14.0 x 5.9 x 2.7 inches (36 x 15 x 7 cm) and weighs 5.5 lb (about 2.5 kg). Cards of this class typically need a strong power supply and special power connectors, so check the manufacturer's requirements.
Who it suits
It suits enthusiasts building a high-end PC for 4K gaming, creators who render or edit video, and anyone who wants a white-themed build.
What to check before you buy
- Case fit: a 3.5-slot, 14-inch card needs generous room for length, width and clearance.
- Power supply: check the recommended wattage and the power connectors in the manual.
- Support: large cards can sag; consider a support bracket.
- Motherboard: PCIe 4.0 is listed, and PCIe slots are backward compatible with some trade-offs.
- Display: make sure your monitor can make use of the card's performance.
- Airflow: check that your case has good ventilation.
