The ASUS ROG Strix GeForce RTX 3060 Ti V2 OC Edition is a gaming graphics card built on NVIDIA's Ampere architecture. It has 8GB of GDDR6 memory, a factory overclock and a large cooler with three fans, and it fits a desktop PC with a PCIe slot and enough room.

The GPU and what Ampere brings

The card uses the GeForce RTX 3060 Ti graphics processor. NVIDIA describes Ampere streaming multiprocessors as bringing twice the FP32 throughput of the previous generation, along with better power efficiency. In practice, this is the part of the chip that does the general graphics calculations in games.

Two other blocks are listed. Second-generation RT cores handle ray tracing, a lighting technique that models how light bounces in a scene, and are described as having twice the throughput of the first generation. Third-generation Tensor cores handle AI work such as DLSS, which uses AI upscaling to raise frame rates, and the listing says they support up to 8K resolution.

Memory and clock speeds

The card has 8GB of GDDR6 memory, a common amount for 1080p and 1440p gaming. The OC Edition runs a boost clock of 1890 MHz in OC mode and 1860 MHz in Gaming mode, according to ASUS. The overclock is applied at the factory and can be switched using the brand's GPU Tweak II software.

The listing also says the card has LHR (lite hash rate), a design NVIDIA introduced to limit certain cryptocurrency mining performance. For gaming it makes no difference.

Cooling

ASUS describes a new design around a group of Axial-tech fans, with a new fan layout and a new rotation scheme, and with specialised roles for the central and auxiliary fans. Super Alloy Power II refers to the power components on the board. At 2.9 slots thick, the card takes up nearly three expansion slots, and it measures around 12.5 inches long.

Connections

The card connects to the motherboard over PCIe 4.0. It has HDMI 2.1 and DisplayPort 1.4a outputs. HDMI 2.1 matters for modern TVs and high-refresh monitors, while DisplayPort 1.4a is common on gaming monitors.

Who it suits

It suits a desktop gamer who wants ray tracing and DLSS support in a PC with a spacious case. It also suits an upgrade from an older card, provided the power supply and case match the requirements.

What to check before you buy

  • Case clearance: confirm that your case has room for a 12.5-inch, 2.9-slot card and check the width of neighbouring slots.
  • Power supply: look up the recommended power supply size and the PCIe power connectors the card needs, in the manual and on NVIDIA's pages.
  • Motherboard slot: PCIe 4.0 cards generally also work in older PCIe slots, though bandwidth may be lower.
  • Display ports: match the outputs to your monitor's inputs.
  • Software: the listing advises avoiding unofficial software; use the maker's own tools and drivers.

The short version

  • An ASUS ROG Strix card with an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 Ti, 8GB GDDR6 and a PCIe 4.0 interface.
  • OC Edition: boost clock of 1890 MHz (OC mode) or 1860 MHz (Gaming mode).
  • Axial-tech fans in a 2.9-slot design; HDMI 2.1 and DisplayPort 1.4a outputs.
  • Ampere architecture with second-generation RT cores and third-generation Tensor cores.
