The ASUS ROG Strix Radeon RX 6600 XT OC Edition is a graphics card built on AMD's RDNA 2 architecture, with 8GB of GDDR6 memory. ASUS aims it at Full HD gaming on high-refresh displays, and it combines a factory overclock with a cooler designed to run quietly.
What the core specs mean
The RX 6600 XT uses AMD's RDNA 2 design and PCIe 4.0. The "OC Edition" in the name means ASUS ships it with a higher clock speed than AMD's reference setting, which can raise performance a little. It has 8GB of GDDR6 memory running at 16 Gbps. Video memory holds textures and frame data, and 8GB is typically enough for gaming at 1080p, though newer games with high texture settings may use more.
The card supports a maximum digital resolution of 7680 x 4320. That figure is the output limit, not a promise of gaming performance at that size.
Outputs
The card offers HDMI 2.1 and DisplayPort 1.4a. HDMI 2.1 is the newer standard, used for high-refresh displays and TVs, and DisplayPort 1.4a is common on gaming monitors. Check how many of each the card provides in the manual if you plan to use several screens.
Cooling: Axial-tech fans
ASUS describes its Axial-tech fan design as having a smaller hub, which allows longer blades, and a barrier ring that raises downward air pressure. The air is pushed through a large heatsink to keep the GPU cool. The fans use dual ball bearings, which ASUS says can last up to twice as long as sleeve bearings.
Power delivery: Super Alloy Power II
Super Alloy Power II is ASUS's name for its premium components: alloy chokes, solid polymer capacitors and high-current power stages. ASUS says these provide clean, stable power to the GPU. Cleaner power typically matters most when overclocking.
Dual BIOS and software
A dual BIOS switch lets you choose between a Quiet profile and a Performance profile using a physical switch on the card, without any software. GPU Tweak II is ASUS's utility for monitoring the card and adjusting its settings. ASUS also names Auto-Extreme Technology, an automated manufacturing process it says improves reliability.
Size
The card measures about 9.6 x 5.3 x 2.0 inches (24 x 13.5 x 5 cm), with a weight of 1.9 lb (about 0.86 kg). It occupies roughly two slots on the back of the case.
Who it suits
It suits players who want smooth Full HD gameplay, especially on a high-refresh monitor, and builders who value a quieter cooler and a BIOS switch. Anyone targeting high-resolution gaming or demanding creative workloads should look at what their games or software need first.
What to check before you buy
- Case clearance: confirm your case has room for a card of this length and thickness.
- Power supply: check the card's power requirements and connectors in the manual, and your power supply's capacity.
- Motherboard slot: it uses PCIe 4.0 but should work in a PCIe 3.0 slot with possibly reduced bandwidth.
- Monitor ports: confirm your display uses HDMI or DisplayPort.
- Noise and temperature: consider your case airflow, which affects any cooler.
The short version
- AMD RDNA 2 graphics card with 8GB GDDR6 at 16 Gbps and PCIe 4.0.
- ASUS OC Edition with Axial-tech dual fans and dual ball bearings.
- Super Alloy Power II components and a Quiet/Performance BIOS switch.
- HDMI 2.1 and DisplayPort 1.4a outputs.
- Built for Full HD gaming, according to ASUS.
