The ASUS ROG Strix GeForce RTX 5070 OC Edition (model ROG-STRIX-RTX5070-O12G-GAMING) is a large, high-end graphics card with 12GB of GDDR7 memory and a PCIe 5.0 interface. Where ASUS's Prime cards focus on compact size, the Strix line puts its emphasis on cooling capacity, power delivery and lighting.
Performance figures
ASUS lists 1044 AI TOPS, a measure of AI processing throughput used for features such as upscaling and frame generation. The OC Edition runs at 2685 MHz in OC mode and 2655 MHz in default mode. Those clock speeds are higher than NVIDIA's reference values, and real results depend on the game, resolution and the rest of your system. The card has HDMI and DisplayPort 2.1 outputs.
A bigger cooler: 3.2 slots
The card measures about 13.1 in long and 5.8 in wide, and weighs 4.3 lb (about 2 kg). It occupies 3.2 slots, with what ASUS calls a massive fin array. The three Axial-tech fans have been scaled up to push more air through the card. More surface area and airflow generally allow lower temperatures or quieter fans at a given load. 0dB technology stops the fans under light use.
Heat transfer
- MaxContact design with vapor chamber: ASUS says this ensures efficient heat transfer from the GPU to the cooler.
- Phase-change thermal pad: it softens with heat to fill gaps between GPU and cooler, which ASUS says lowers temperatures.
Power and protection
The card uses digital power control and 15K capacitors, which ASUS says support high performance. A protective PCB coating covers the circuit board to help protect against short-circuits caused by moisture, dust or debris, according to the brand.
Lighting and software
Aura Sync gives Aura-compatible ARGB lighting on the shroud and perimeter. It can match other compatible components, so a PC can have a unified look. GPU Tweak III software handles performance tuning, thermal control and monitoring.
Who it suits
This card suits enthusiasts building a roomy gaming PC who want a large cooler and customisable lighting. Because it is physically big, it is a better fit for mid-tower or full-tower cases than compact ones.
What to check before you buy
- Space: measure case length, height and the number of free slots. A 3.2-slot card blocks adjacent expansion slots.
- Support: heavy cards often benefit from a support bracket; check what your case provides.
- Power supply: check ASUS's recommended wattage and the power connector your supply offers.
- Motherboard slot: it needs a PCIe x16 slot; PCIe 5.0 is listed, and older slots should work, though check your board.
- Lighting control: confirm that you are comfortable installing the software for Aura Sync.
- Display inputs: confirm that your monitor matches the HDMI or DisplayPort outputs.
The short version
- A GeForce RTX 5070 with 12GB of GDDR7 and 1044 AI TOPS.
- OC Edition: 2685 MHz in OC mode and 2655 MHz in default mode.
- 3.2-slot, three-fan cooler with MaxContact vapor chamber and a phase-change pad.
- Protective PCB coating, digital power control and Aura Sync lighting.
- Large: confirm case clearance and power supply before buying.
