ASUS ROG Strix GeForce RTX 4060 OC 8GB: features, specs and who it suits
A look at the ASUS ROG Strix RTX 4060 OC graphics card: 8GB GDDR6, DLSS 3, three Axial-tech fans, a 3.1-slot cooler and what those specs mean for a gaming PC.

The ASUS ROG Strix RTX 4060 OC (model ROG-STRIX-RTX4060-O8G-GAMING) is a factory-overclocked graphics card built around NVIDIA's GeForce RTX 4060 GPU. It pairs 8GB of GDDR6 memory with a large three-fan cooler, and it is aimed at people building or upgrading a gaming PC. Here is what its main specs mean in practice.
What the Ada Lovelace GPU brings
The RTX 4060 is based on NVIDIA's Ada Lovelace architecture. ASUS quotes NVIDIA's figures of up to 2X performance and power efficiency from the new streaming multiprocessors, compared with the previous generation. As with any "up to" claim, the real gain depends on the game, the resolution and the rest of the system.
The card also carries 4th generation Tensor Cores and 3rd generation RT Cores. RT cores handle ray tracing, a lighting technique that models how light bounces around a scene, and ASUS cites up to 2X ray-tracing performance. Tensor cores run the AI work behind upscaling.
DLSS 3 explained
DLSS is NVIDIA's technology for rendering a game at a lower internal resolution and using AI to produce a sharper final image. DLSS 3 adds frame generation, which creates extra frames between the ones the GPU renders. ASUS says DLSS 3 can deliver up to 4x the performance of brute-force rendering. It only works in games that support it, so check the titles you play.
Cooling: Axial-tech fans and a 3.1-slot design
Three Axial-tech fans are scaled up for 21% more airflow, according to ASUS. They push air through a large fin array, and a vented backplate lets some of that air pass straight through the card. The listing also mentions "0dB Technology", which in general means the fans stop at low loads, so the card is quiet when idle or doing light work.
The cooler takes up 3.1 slots, and the card is about 12.2 inches (31 cm) long. That is large for a card at this tier, so case clearance matters.
Power delivery and software
ASUS describes digital power control with high-current power stages and 15K capacitors, intended to keep power delivery steady under load. It also says Auto-Extreme automated manufacturing improves reliability. The GPU Tweak III utility handles performance tuning, thermal controls and system monitoring, and the "OC" in the name means ASUS has set higher clocks than NVIDIA's reference design.
Connections and compatibility
The listing gives PCIe 4.0, HDMI 2.1a and DisplayPort 1.4a. HDMI 2.1 is what high-refresh 4K televisions and some monitors use. Aura Sync lets the card's lighting follow other compatible ASUS components.
Who it suits
It suits someone who wants current NVIDIA features such as DLSS 3 and ray tracing in a card with a large cooler. It is a reasonable fit for 1080p gaming and can be used at higher resolutions, with settings adjusted to the game. Because it carries 8GB of video memory, very demanding texture settings may need to be lowered.
What to check before you buy
- Case clearance: confirm the case has room for a card of about 12.2 inches that occupies 3.1 slots.
- Power supply: check the card's power requirement in the manual and make sure your supply has the right connector.
- Motherboard slot: PCIe 4.0 cards are backward compatible with older slots, though they may run at reduced bandwidth.
- Display ports: make sure your monitor's inputs match the HDMI and DisplayPort versions.
- Game support: check that the games you play support DLSS 3 if that matters to you.
The short version
- A factory-overclocked GeForce RTX 4060 with 8GB of GDDR6.
- DLSS 3, 4th gen Tensor Cores and 3rd gen RT Cores.
- Three Axial-tech fans, a vented backplate and a 3.1-slot cooler.
- PCIe 4.0, HDMI 2.1a and DisplayPort 1.4a outputs.
- About 12.2 inches long and 2.3 lb, so check case fit.
