The ASUS ProArt GeForce RTX 4080 Super OC (model PROART-RTX4080S-O16G) is a graphics card with 16GB of GDDR6X memory, aimed at creators who do 3D rendering, video editing and photo work. ASUS built it as a 2.5-slot card, slimmer than many cards in this class.

The GPU and memory

The card uses NVIDIA's Ada Lovelace architecture. ASUS lists 16GB of GDDR6X memory and a PCIe 4.0 interface. Video memory matters for large scenes, high-resolution timelines and big textures, since the card holds that data locally. ASUS also gives clock speeds: 2640 MHz in OC mode and 2610 MHz in default mode. "OC" cards come factory-tuned a little above the reference speed.

DLSS 3 and ray tracing

The listing mentions 4th-generation Tensor Cores, which ASUS says give up to 4x performance with DLSS 3 compared with brute-force rendering. DLSS uses AI to generate or upscale frames, which mostly matters in supported games and applications. The 3rd-generation RT cores handle ray tracing, with up to 2x ray tracing performance according to the listing. These are the brand's figures, and results depend on the software.

Cooling and the 2.5-slot design

The Axial-tech fans are scaled up for 23% more airflow, per ASUS, and the fan bearings are dual ball bearings that ASUS says last up to twice as long as conventional designs. A 2.5-slot design means the card blocks two and a half expansion slots at the back of the case. ASUS says this makes it compatible with more cases while keeping cooling strong.

Outputs

The card offers HDMI 2.1a and DisplayPort 1.4a. Check the number of each on the maker's specification sheet if you run multiple monitors.

Software

GPU Tweak III has a profile connect feature, which ASUS says lets creators tune system performance and cooling for each application. ASUS also cites automated Auto-Extreme manufacturing for reliability.

Size

The card is about 11.8 inches (30 cm) long and 4.7 inches wide, and it weighs 2.4 lb (1.1 kg).

Who it suits

It suits creators building or upgrading a workstation for rendering, editing or design who need a compact high-end card.

What to check before you buy

  • Case clearance: compare the length, width and slot thickness with your case.
  • Power: check the power supply wattage and the connectors the card needs, listed in the manual.
  • Motherboard slot: confirm a free x16 slot and enough room beside it.
  • Monitors: check that the outputs match your displays.
  • Software: confirm your applications use the GPU features you want.
  • Cooling: make sure the case has airflow for a card of this size.

The short version

  • A 16GB GDDR6X graphics card on NVIDIA's Ada Lovelace architecture.
  • 2640 MHz OC mode, DLSS 3 support and ray tracing cores.
  • 2.5-slot design with axial-tech fans and dual ball bearings.
  • HDMI 2.1a and DisplayPort 1.4a.
  • Check case clearance and power supply first.
