ASUS Prime GeForce RTX 5070 12GB: features, specs and who it suits

A compact 2.5-slot GeForce RTX 5070 with 12GB of GDDR7, PCIe 5.0 and three Axial-tech fans, made for small-form-factor PCs. What the specs mean in practice.

The ASUS Prime GeForce RTX 5070 (model PRIME-RTX5070-12G) is a graphics card built around NVIDIA's RTX 5070 with 12GB of GDDR7 memory. ASUS labels it "SFF-Ready", meaning it is shaped to fit into small-form-factor cases where many enthusiast cards simply don't. It suits anyone building or upgrading a compact gaming or creative PC.

What "SFF-Ready" and 2.5 slots mean

A card's thickness is measured in expansion slots, the brackets at the back of a case. The Prime RTX 5070 is a 2.5-slot design and is listed at about 16.1 inches (roughly 41 cm) long and 3.5 inches (about 9 cm) wide. ASUS says this layout keeps it compatible with small-form-factor builds while still leaving room for effective cooling. In general, slimmer cards leave more space for airflow and for neighbouring components, but they have less heatsink area to work with than the largest cards.

Blackwell, DLSS 4 and GDDR7

ASUS says the card is powered by NVIDIA's Blackwell architecture and supports DLSS 4. DLSS is NVIDIA's upscaling and frame-generation technology: the game renders at a lower resolution or fewer frames, and AI models fill in the rest. Support depends on the game, so it is worth checking that the titles you play offer it.

The 12GB of GDDR7 is the card's video memory, where textures and frame data live. GDDR7 is the newer generation of graphics memory and typically offers more bandwidth than GDDR6. The card also uses a PCIe 5.0 interface, which is backward compatible with older slots. A PCIe 4.0 or 3.0 motherboard will usually run it, though the link speed drops to match the slot.

Cooling with Axial-tech fans

The card carries three Axial-tech fans. ASUS describes a smaller fan hub that allows longer blades, plus a barrier ring that increases downward air pressure. The shroud, heatsink and heat pipes are arranged so the fans can draw on ventilation from the side panel of the case. That matters in compact cases, where a side panel with mesh or vents can make a noticeable difference to how easily a card gets fresh air.

Heat transfer from the chip to the heatsink also depends on the thermal interface. ASUS fits a phase-change GPU thermal pad, a material designed to soften at operating temperature and keep good contact with the chip. The brand says this lowers GPU temperatures and supports performance and reliability.

Dual BIOS and connections

The listing mentions a dual BIOS feature. Dual BIOS cards typically offer two firmware profiles, often one tuned for performance and one for quieter running, selected by a switch on the card. For display outputs, ASUS lists HDMI and DisplayPort 2.1, which cover high-resolution and high-refresh-rate monitors and TVs.

Who it suits

This card is aimed at people who want a current-generation GeForce card in a case that can't take a very large one. It is a natural fit for compact builds, living-room PCs and desktops where a 2.5-slot cooler is the limit.

What to check before you buy

  • Case clearance: confirm that your case allows a card about 16.1 inches long and 2.5 slots thick, with room for cables at the end.
  • Power supply: check the wattage and connector type your PSU provides against the card's requirements in the manual.
  • Motherboard slot: a PCIe x16 slot is needed; PCIe 5.0 isn't required but sets the top link speed.
  • Airflow: compact cases benefit from a ventilated side panel, since the fan design is meant to use it.
  • Monitor ports: make sure your display's inputs match the HDMI and DisplayPort outputs.
  • Software and drivers: current drivers from the GPU maker are needed for features such as DLSS 4.

The short version

  • ASUS Prime GeForce RTX 5070 with 12GB of GDDR7 and a PCIe 5.0 interface.
  • A 2.5-slot, SFF-Ready design for small-form-factor builds.
  • Three Axial-tech fans and a phase-change thermal pad for cooling.
  • Dual BIOS, HDMI and DisplayPort 2.1 outputs.
  • Check case length, thickness and power supply first.
