The ASUS Dual Radeon RX 6600 (model DUAL-RX6600-8G-V2) is a graphics card built on AMD's RDNA 2 architecture with 8GB of GDDR6 memory. ASUS calls it a 1080p gaming card, and it is a fairly compact dual-fan design that fits many mid-size cases. It is for anyone building or upgrading a gaming PC.

RDNA 2 and 8GB of memory

RDNA 2 is AMD's graphics architecture, and the RX 6600 is the 1080p-focused card in that family. ASUS describes it as a "1080p powerhouse". The 8GB of GDDR6 memory holds textures and other game data, and 8GB is typically enough for 1080p at common settings, though newer titles at higher settings can use more. The card connects through PCIe 4.0 and generally also works in PCIe 3.0 slots, with some bandwidth reduction.

Clock speeds

ASUS lists both OC Mode and Default Mode at up to 2491 MHz. Boost clocks are maximums and the real speed depends on temperature and load, so treat the figure as a ceiling, not a constant.

Cooling design

ASUS names three cooling features:

  • Axial-tech fan design: a smaller fan hub allows longer blades, and a barrier ring increases downward air pressure.
  • 0dB technology: typically means the fans stop when the card is cool or lightly loaded, which makes idle use silent.
  • Dual ball fan bearings: ASUS says they can last up to twice as long as sleeve bearings.

Build details

A protective backplate is listed to prevent PCB flex and trace damage, which helps when the card sits horizontally in a case for years. Auto-Extreme Technology is ASUS's automated manufacturing process, said to enhance reliability. The card measures about 14.3 x 8.5 x 2.6 inches and weighs 1.6 lb.

Connections

The card has HDMI 2.1 and DisplayPort 1.4a outputs, which cover most current monitors and TVs. Check the manual for the exact number of each port.

Who it suits

It suits builders putting together a 1080p gaming PC, or upgrading an older card in a system with a modern power supply and a free PCIe x16 slot. A dual-fan, 2.6-inch-thick design is easier to fit in smaller cases than a three-fan card.

What to check before you buy

  • Case clearance: about 14.3 inches long and just over two slots thick.
  • Power supply: check AMD's and ASUS's guidance on wattage and the power connector the card needs.
  • Display outputs: confirm your monitor uses HDMI or DisplayPort.
  • Resolution goals: if you plan on 1440p or 4K, check whether 8GB and this tier suit your target games.
  • CPU and slot: a PCIe x16 slot is needed, and a very old CPU may limit performance.
  • Software: AMD's driver software is downloaded separately.

  • Up to 2491 MHz in both OC and Default modes.
  • Axial-tech fan design, 0dB technology and dual ball fan bearings.
  • Protective backplate; about 14.3 inches long and 1.6 lb.
