The ASUS Dual Radeon RX 560 4GB (model DUAL-RX560-4G) is a graphics card for desktop computers. It has 4GB of GDDR5 memory, connects through a PCIe 3.0 slot and offers HDMI 2.0 and DisplayPort 1.4 outputs. The Radeon RX 560 is an older, entry-level GPU, generally associated with light gaming and everyday display output rather than demanding recent games.

What it is for

A graphics card handles the image on your monitor and does the heavy work in games. With 4GB of memory, this card suits light and older games at moderate settings, as well as general desktop use and multiple screens. It is also a way to add a display output to a desktop that lacks one. Newer, demanding titles generally call for something more powerful.

Cooling: wing-blade fans and 0dB mode

ASUS says the wing-blade fan design has drooped tips on each blade to reduce drag. The listing also describes 0dB technology, which lets the fans stop at low load for what ASUS calls light gaming in relative silence. This is a common feature on modern cards: the fans only spin once the GPU warms up past a threshold.

Dual ball bearings

The fans use dual ball bearings, which ASUS says can last up to twice as long as sleeve bearings. Ball bearings typically hold up better to heat and long running hours. The brand also lists Auto-Extreme Technology, an automated manufacturing process that ASUS says improves reliability.

Ports

HDMI 2.0 suits most current TVs and monitors, and DisplayPort 1.4 suits many computer monitors, including higher refresh rates. Check how many of each the card provides, and which cable your monitor needs, on the ASUS product page.

PCIe 3.0 and size

The card plugs into a PCIe slot and uses the PCIe 3.0 standard. PCIe is backward and forward compatible, so it also works in slots of other generations, usually at the speed of the slower of the two. It measures about 9.5 x 5.0 x 1.6 inches (24 x 12.7 x 4 cm), and it weighs 1.4 lb (about 0.64 kg). The 1.6-inch thickness suggests a card that takes up about two slots on the back of the case.

Power

Graphics cards draw power from the motherboard slot and sometimes from additional connectors. Check the ASUS specifications for the card's power requirements and the power supply they recommend, then compare them with your PC.

What to check before you buy

  • Case space: measure the length and height of the available space in your case.
  • Slot: confirm a free PCIe x16 slot, and room for a two-slot cooler.
  • Power supply: compare the card's requirements with your PSU and its connectors.
  • Monitor inputs: match HDMI or DisplayPort with your screen and cables.
  • Games you play: check the minimum and recommended specifications for those titles.
  • Drivers: check the operating systems supported.
