The Anker Nano Charging Station (model A91C8) is a small desktop power strip that combines three AC outlets with four USB connections, two of them built-in retractable cables. It is meant to replace a tangle of separate chargers on a desk with one box and a single power cord. Here is what its specs mean in everyday use.
What the seven connections are
The "7-in-1" counts every place you can plug something in:
- Three AC outlets for lamps, monitors or laptop power bricks.
- Three USB-C connections: one USB-C port on the side, plus two USB-C cables built into the unit.
- One USB-A port for older cables and accessories.
Anker keeps the AC outlets and the USB ports in separate areas of the body, so wall-style plugs and charging cables don't crowd each other. According to Anker's images, the AC outlets are about 1.57 inches (4 cm) apart, centre to centre. Bulky plug-in adapters may still block a neighbouring outlet, so it's worth checking the size of the ones you use.
How the 100W is shared
Each USB-C connection can deliver up to 100W when it's the only one in use. That figure is the maximum for one device; when several devices charge at the same time, the power is shared between them, so each one gets less.
Most laptops that charge over USB-C use the USB Power Delivery standard, and 100W is enough for many thin-and-light models to charge at full speed. Larger performance laptops may charge more slowly. Phones, earbuds and tablets typically draw far less, so they share the output comfortably. The listing doesn't give a separate figure for the USB-A port or for each port when several are busy, so check Anker's documentation if you plan to charge two laptops at once.
The retractable cables
The two built-in USB-C cables pull out to 2.3 feet (70 cm) and, according to Anker, retract in about one second. Anker describes the setup as made for desks within about 3 feet of an outlet. Note that only the USB-C cables retract; the strip's own power cord does not.
Built-in cables are handy because they can't wander off to another room, and they keep the desk tidy when not in use. The trade-off is that their length is fixed, so a phone or laptop needs to sit within reach of the unit.
The display
A 1.3-inch LCD on the front shows the charging status and temperature in real time, including the wattage going to each device. A button on top switches between display modes, and holding it down turns the screen off, which is useful in a bedroom or a dim office.
Size and placement
The unit measures 4.76 x 2.86 x 2.09 inches (121 x 72.6 x 53.2 mm) and weighs 21.69 oz (615 g), so it sits on a desk rather than hiding behind it. An adhesive pad comes in the box to hold it in place when you pull out a cable. Anker lists an 18-month warranty.
Who it suits
It suits people who work at a desk with a laptop, a phone and a few accessories, and who want fewer separate chargers and cables. It also works in a shared space or a bedside spot where a display showing charging status is helpful.
What to check before you buy
- Laptop wattage: confirm your laptop charges over USB-C and how much power it needs.
- Several devices at once: remember the 100W maximum applies to a single device; shared charging is slower.
- Cable reach: the built-in cables extend to 70 cm, so plan where your devices sit.
- Plug sizes: check that your plugs and adapters fit side by side on the outlets.
- AC load: check the rated load in the manual before plugging in high-draw appliances.
The short version
- A 7-in-1 desktop charging station: three AC outlets, three USB-C connections and one USB-A port.
- Two of the USB-C connections are retractable cables that extend to 2.3 ft (70 cm).
- Up to 100W from any single USB-C connection, shared when several devices charge.
- A 1.3-inch display shows charging status and temperature.
- 4.76 x 2.86 x 2.09 in and 615 g, with an adhesive pad and an 18-month warranty.
