The Anker 615 (model A9125) is a flat, travel-friendly power strip with USB charging built in. It has two AC outlets, two USB-C ports and one USB-A port, plus a 3 ft (0.9 m) extension cord. It's meant for a hotel desk, an airport seat or a home office where outlets are scarce.

What 65W and GaN mean

The USB-C output reaches 65W, which Anker says is enough to charge phones, tablets and many laptops. Anker says it can charge a 14-inch MacBook Pro to 50% in 37 minutes, a result under the brand's test conditions. GaN (gallium nitride) is a semiconductor used in many modern chargers. It typically runs cooler than older silicon designs, which lets the charger be smaller and thinner for the same power.

The 65W is a maximum. When several ports are in use, the power is generally divided among them, so a laptop sharing with a phone gets less than the full amount.

Five ports

There are two AC outlets, two USB-C ports and one USB-A port. The AC outlets take regular plugs, such as a laptop's own power brick or a lamp. USB-C suits recent phones, tablets and laptops with Power Delivery, and the USB-A port is handy for older cables and accessories.

ActiveShield 2.0

Anker describes ActiveShield 2.0 as intelligent temperature monitoring. It's an included safeguard, but it doesn't replace good habits. Don't overload the AC outlets, keep the strip clear of bedding and soft furnishings, and follow the manual and local electrical codes.

Slim, light and travel-ready

The strip measures about 4.7 x 2.3 inches (around 11.9 x 5.8 cm) and is only 0.1 inches thick in the listing's dimensions. It weighs 0.7 lb, and Anker gives the strip with its cord as 320 g. That's slim enough to slip into a laptop bag. Check that the plug type matches the outlets where you'll travel, because it won't convert voltage or plug shape on its own.

What's in the box

Anker lists the 615 USB Power Strip with a 3 ft extension cord, a welcome guide, a 24-month warranty and customer service.

Who it suits

It suits travellers and remote workers who carry a laptop and a phone, students in dorms with few outlets, and anyone who wants one compact charger rather than several. For a desk that needs many high-power ports, a larger station may fit better.

What to check before you buy

  • Laptop wattage: compare your laptop's charger wattage with the 65W maximum.
  • Shared power: expect lower speeds per port when several are in use.
  • Plug and voltage: confirm the plug suits your destination and the voltage range is listed for it.
  • Cables: you'll need your own USB-C and USB-A cables.
  • AC load: check the total power limit in the manual before plugging in heavy items.

The short version

  • A 5-port power strip, model A9125: two AC, two USB-C, one USB-A.
  • 65W maximum USB-C output using GaN technology.
  • ActiveShield 2.0 temperature monitoring and a 3 ft cord.
  • About 0.7 lb (320 g) and very thin.
