The Anker A80E7 is a 10-foot (about 3 m) USB-C to USB-C cable rated for up to 240W of power. It is meant for charging phones, tablets and laptops from a wall charger or power bank that sits some distance away, such as across a bed or behind a desk. Here is what its specs mean and what to confirm before relying on it.

What 240W means

USB-C cables are not all equal. Basic ones carry around 60W, which suits phones and small tablets. Cables built to the USB Power Delivery 3.1 standard can carry up to 240W, which is the top level the standard defines and is aimed at larger laptops and other power-hungry devices. Anker rates this cable for a 240W maximum output.

The cable is only one part of the chain. The charger must be able to supply that power, and the device must be able to accept it. A phone will draw only what it needs, so a 240W cable does not push extra power into it. In general, a higher-rated cable is simply less likely to be the bottleneck.

Charging phones and laptops

Anker says an iPhone 16 can reach 50% in 30 minutes using a 30W charger, and that the cable carries USB-IF certification for efficiency. The USB-IF is the body that maintains the USB standards, and certification generally means the cable has been checked against them. The listing names devices such as the iPhone 16 series, the 2020 MacBook Pro and the iPad Pro, and it describes the cable as suitable for more.

Data speed: USB 2.0

This cable is a charging-first design. It carries USB 2.0 data, which tops out at 480 Mbps. That is fine for syncing a phone or connecting a keyboard, but it is not the cable to pick for fast external SSDs or for video output, which typically need a USB 3 or Thunderbolt-rated cable.

The bio-braided sleeve

The outer sleeve is a braided nylon that Anker says is made partly from plant-derived materials, including corn and sugar cane. The brand says this cuts petroleum use by 30-40% compared with conventional nylon. Braiding is commonly used to resist tangling and abrasion at the points where cables usually fray.

Anker also states that the cable has gone through 10,000 tests and has a 10,000-bend lifespan, which describes how well it is built to cope with repeated flexing near the connectors.

Length and where it helps

At 10 feet, this is a long cable. It reaches from a wall outlet to a sofa or bed, or from a power strip under a desk to a laptop on top. The trade-off is that long cables are bulkier to carry, and very long runs can lose a little efficiency. For a bag, a shorter cable is usually easier.

It weighs about 0.2 lb (roughly 90 g) and has a USB-C connector on both ends, so it will not connect a USB-A charger to a USB-C device without an adapter.

In the box

Anker lists the cable, a welcome guide and a 24-month warranty with customer service.

What to check before you buy

  • Ports: both your charger and your device need USB-C ports.
  • Charger output: the cable only delivers what the charger offers; check its wattage against your device's needs.
  • Data needs: if you move large files or connect a display, check whether you need a faster data cable than USB 2.0.
  • Length: 10 feet suits fixed setups; a shorter cable is easier for travel.
  • Device compatibility: confirm your device supports USB-C charging and, for laptops, the wattage it requires.

The short version

  • A 10 ft USB-C to USB-C cable rated at up to 240W.
  • USB-IF certified for efficiency, according to Anker.
  • Bio-based braided nylon sleeve and a stated 10,000-bend lifespan.
  • USB 2.0 data speed, so best suited to charging and light syncing.
  • Comes with a 24-month warranty.
