The Anker 547 (model A8354) is a small USB-C hub made for MacBooks. It turns two USB-C ports into seven connections, so a thin laptop can reach a monitor, memory cards and older USB accessories without a tangle of separate adapters.
What the "7-in-2" name means
The hub plugs into two of the laptop's USB-C ports and gives back seven. Anker lists one multi-function USB-C port, one USB-C data port, two USB-A ports, one HDMI port, one SD card slot and one microSD card slot. Two of those connections are the plugs that go into the laptop. The rest are the sockets you use day to day.
Charging and data on the multi-function port
The multi-function USB-C port supports charging power of up to 100W, data transfer of up to 40 Gb/s and displays up to 5K. In general, "charging pass-through" means you plug the laptop's charger into the hub and the hub passes power through to the computer. Whether you get the full 100W depends on the charger you use and what your laptop will accept, so the figure is a ceiling rather than a promise.
The 40 Gb/s figure matches the Thunderbolt 4 and USB4 class of speed. Anker says the hub is compatible with Thunderbolt 4 hosts.
Displays: what to expect
The HDMI port supports 4K at 60Hz, and the multi-function port supports 5K at 60Hz. Anker says that using both gives two screens. There is an important note in the listing: M1 and M2 MacBooks do not support dual external displays, so on those models you should expect one external screen. This is a limit of the laptop, not of the hub.
Cards and older accessories
The SD and microSD slots suit photographers and anyone who moves files from cameras, drones or action cameras. The two USB-A ports cover keyboards, mice, flash drives and other accessories that still use the older plug. The separate USB-C data port is useful for a fast external drive.
Designed around the MagSafe port
Anker says the hub is shaped so that it doesn't block a MacBook's MagSafe charging port. That matters if you prefer the magnetic charger, since many hubs sit on the same side of the laptop and get in the way. It weighs about 0.1 lb (roughly 45 g), so it travels easily in a laptop bag.
Who it suits
It suits MacBook Air and MacBook Pro owners, including 13-inch M1 and M2 models according to the listing, who have only a couple of ports and want a desk or travel setup with a display and card reader.
What to check before you buy
- Your laptop's ports and model: confirm it has USB-C ports and read its specifications on external displays.
- Display needs: check how many screens your laptop supports and at what resolution and refresh rate.
- Charger: use a charger with enough wattage for your laptop if you plan to charge through the hub.
- Cables: a monitor needs an HDMI cable, and the hub doesn't include one according to the contents list.
- Heat and case fit: compact hubs can warm up under heavy use, and a thick laptop case may affect how it sits.
- What's in the box: the Anker 547 hub, a welcome guide and an 18-month warranty.
