The WORX WG605 is a plug-in electric pressure washer for the jobs around a house: driveways, decks, siding, brickwork, and muddy bikes or camping gear. It is light and compact, which makes it easier to put away and carry than larger petrol-powered machines.

What the numbers mean

WORX rates it at 1800 PSI (up to 1980 PSI at maximum) and 1.2 GPM (up to 1.4 GPM maximum). PSI is the pressure of the water, which is what lifts stuck-on dirt. GPM is the flow rate, which determines how quickly the dirt gets rinsed away. Both matter: pressure loosens grime and flow carries it off. A 13-amp motor drives the pump, and WORX describes it as powerful but not so forceful that it will knock the user over.

Nozzles and the quick-connect wand

The spray wand has a universal 1/4-inch quick-connect, so you can change nozzles by pushing one in, without tools. Three nozzles come in the box:

  • Turbo nozzle: a rotating, concentrated jet for tougher surfaces such as brickwork.
  • 40-degree nozzle: a wide, gentle fan for lighter jobs.
  • Soap nozzle: a low-pressure setting for drawing in detergent.

In general, a wider spray angle is gentler on surfaces, so it's wise to start wide and move closer or narrower only if you need to.

Onboard soap tank

A built-in tank lets you add detergent to the stream when you use the soap nozzle, so you don't need a separate foam attachment. Use detergents that suit pressure washers and the surface you're cleaning, and follow the manual.

Portability and tidy-up

The washer weighs 13.8 lb and measures about 15 x 12 x 10 inches. It has an integrated carry handle, a cord wrap and onboard storage for the wand and nozzles. The base is metal-framed with rubber feet for stability. The kit includes the wand and a 20-foot hose.

Who it suits

It suits homeowners and renters with a modest amount of outdoor cleaning: patio furniture, a garage floor, a car, a fence, or a small deck. Heavy, all-day commercial use is a different job.

What to check before you buy

  • Power: it needs a standard outlet and a 13-amp circuit; use a suitable outdoor-rated extension cord if you must, and follow the manual.
  • Water supply: you need a hose connection and a tap with reasonable flow.
  • Hose reach: consider how far the 20-foot hose and the cord will take you.
  • Surfaces: pressure can damage soft wood, paint or seals, so check the manual's guidance.
  • Detergent: check which cleaning products the soap tank accepts.
  • Space: confirm that you have space for the unit and hose.
