The WORX WG471 is a cordless snow blower that runs on two 20V batteries working together as 40V. It is a single-stage machine with a 20-inch clearing width, designed for driveways, paths and decks where a full-size gas machine would be more than you need.
Battery power instead of petrol
WORX says the two Power Share batteries give "gas-like" power without the fuel, oil changes or pull cord. The kit includes two 20V 4.0Ah batteries and a 4-amp dual charger. Battery run time depends on how deep, wet or compacted the snow is, so a larger area or heavy snow may take more than one charge.
The batteries are part of WORX's Power Share system, which the brand says works with its 20V and 40V tools and outdoor products. If you already own that range, the batteries are interchangeable.
What single-stage means
A single-stage machine uses a rotary auger that scoops and throws the snow in one step. WORX says its one-piece auger is built to handle compacted snow and ice while staying compact and manoeuvrable. In general, single-stage blowers suit light to moderate snowfall and paved surfaces. Gravel drives need care, since the auger can throw stones.
Clearing width, depth and throw
The brand says each pass clears a 20-inch (about 51 cm) wide path of snow up to 10 inches (about 25 cm) deep, and throws it up to 20 feet (about 6 m). The chute rotates through 180° and has a one-touch adjustable deflector to aim the snow where you want it.
Brushless motor
A brushless motor uses electronic control instead of carbon brushes. WORX says this yields more power while using less battery, and a longer lifespan. In most tools, brushless designs are also more efficient because there is less friction.
Headlights, handle and colour
Dual LED headlights light the area ahead for early-morning or evening clearing. The handle folds fully for storage, and the soft grip is designed for comfort. The listing gives dimensions of about 44.5 x 21.3 x 37.4 inches (113 x 54 x 95 cm) and a weight of 47.2 lb (21.4 kg). It may arrive in orange or black; WORX says both are the same tool.
What to check before you buy
- Your snowfall: consider the usual depth and wetness of snow where you live.
- Surface: check that it suits paved surfaces rather than loose gravel.
- Area size: think about how much you clear in one go compared with battery run time.
- Charging: batteries charge indoors; plan for charge time between storms.
- Cold storage: follow the manual on storing and charging batteries in low temperatures.
- Storage space: the handle folds, but the machine still needs floor space.
