The WORX Nitro WG460 is a battery-powered snow shovel that throws snow instead of lifting it. It is aimed at the jobs where a full snowblower is more machine than you need: steps, decks, patios, paths and a driveway after a light to moderate fall. The battery and charger come with it.
How the cutting width and depth work
WORX says the WG460 clears a path 12 inches (about 30 cm) wide and 6 inches (about 15 cm) deep in one pass. That is narrower than most gas or electric snowblowers, which is the point: a narrow head fits on stairs and between a car and a wall, and it keeps the machine light. The listing describes it as suited to up to 6 inches of snow on a two- to four-car driveway on a single charge, so deeper snow typically means taking it in layers.
The brushless motor and 40V battery
The shovel uses a brushless motor. In general, brushless motors have no carbon brushes to wear out and waste less energy as heat, which is why they tend to run longer per charge and last longer. WORX puts numbers on it: 50% longer run time, 25% more power and 10% longer motor life, though it does not say what those figures are compared with.
Power comes from a 40V, 4.0 Ah battery from the WORX Power Share PRO range. Ah (amp-hours) is a measure of capacity, so a higher figure usually means more clearing time between charges. Batteries in a shared platform can usually be swapped between compatible tools from the same brand.
Two speeds and three throwing directions
A variable trigger with two speeds lets you match the machine to the snow. A lower speed suits a light dusting or tight spaces. The higher speed suits heavier, wetter snow. WORX says the shovel throws snow up to 25 feet (about 7.5 m).
Three adjustable throwing directions let you send the snow left, right or ahead, so it lands away from the area you have just cleared. This reduces the number of passes you need and keeps snow from drifting back onto steps.
Handle, weight and storage
The front handle is adjustable, so you can set the grip to your height and reduce stooping. WORX describes the design as light and ergonomic. The handle folds for storage, which helps if it lives in a garage or shed through the summer. The listed dimensions are 14.4 x 15.0 x 65.0 inches (about 37 x 38 x 165 cm), measured set up for use.
Who it suits
It suits people with steps, decks, a short path or a modest driveway who want something quieter and simpler than a gas machine, with no fuel or pull cord. It is a lighter-duty tool, so very deep or packed snow, ice, or a long driveway with heavy plough-pile at the end may be beyond what a 12-inch head is meant for.
What to check before you buy
- Typical snowfall. The stated capability is up to 6 inches (15 cm) per pass. Consider how deep your snow usually gets.
- Area to clear. Compare your driveway and paths with the two- to four-car range, and think about whether one battery will cover it in cold weather, when battery capacity typically drops.
- Battery platform. If you already own WORX Power Share tools, check whether the batteries are interchangeable.
- Height and storage. Check that the 65-inch length suits you and that the folded size fits your storage space.
- Surface. Gravel and uneven surfaces are harder on any snow thrower. Check the manual for guidance.
- Cold-weather charging. Follow the manual for charging and storing the battery.
The short version
- A cordless 40V snow shovel with a 12-inch wide, 6-inch deep clearing path.
- Brushless motor, two speeds and a throw distance of up to 25 feet, according to WORX.
- Three throwing directions and a foldable, adjustable front handle.
- The 4.0 Ah battery and charger are included.
