The WORX Landroid M WR142E is a robotic lawn mower for gardens of up to 700 square metres. It cuts the grass on a schedule, returns to its charging station and is controlled from a phone app. It replaces the routine of pushing a mower with a machine that runs on its own within a boundary wire.
How the boundary wire works
The robot stays inside the lawn thanks to a boundary wire pegged around the edge of the area. The box includes 150 m of wire with 210 pegs, plus a charging station with power supply and mounting nails. Laying the wire is the main setup task. Wire is typically fixed at the surface or buried slightly, and it needs to go around flower beds, ponds and other obstacles you want the robot to avoid.
Battery and running time
The mower uses a 20V lithium-ion battery of 4000 mAh. WORX says this gives about 120 minutes of lawn care. The battery is part of the Powershare series, so WORX says it is interchangeable with batteries from other WORX devices.
Cutting width, height and edges
The listed cutting width is 180 mm, and the cutting height can be set between 30 and 60 mm. A narrow cutting width means the robot makes many passes, which is why robotic mowers usually run often and take off a little grass each time. WORX highlights a cut-to-edge function intended to trim the grass right up to the lawn's border and cut down on trimming by hand. A brushless motor is said to improve energy efficiency and service life. Nine blades and screws are included.
Slopes, smart features and app control
The listing gives a maximum gradient of 35 percent. The mower connects to your home Wi-Fi and is controlled in the app, where Smart Auto Scheduling sets the working times. WORX also lists AIA Agile Technology, which it says helps the robot adapt to its surroundings and get around obstacles, voice control through Alexa or Google Assistant, and anti-theft protection with a PIN code.
Who it suits
It suits owners of small to medium lawns who would like regular, light cutting rather than weekly sessions. Check that the lawn is no larger than 700 m² and that its slopes are within 35 percent.
What to check before you buy
- Lawn size and shape: the listed limit is 700 m², and narrow passages and separate lawn areas may need extra planning.
- Slopes: confirm the steepest part is within 35 percent.
- Wire layout: plan the route for the 150 m of wire, and see whether you'll need more.
- Charging station: it needs a level spot, a nearby outlet and open access.
- Wi-Fi: make sure the signal reaches the garden for app control.
- Upkeep: blades wear and need replacing, and the underside needs cleaning, as the manual describes.
- Safety: keep children and pets away while it runs, and follow the manual.
