The VEVOR Y02017 is a two-wheeled cart for carrying a kayak or small canoe from the car to the water. It works by fitting into the kayak's drain holes (scupper holes) and lifting the hull on wheels, so you can pull it along instead of carrying it. It weighs 6.7 lb (about 3 kg) and the wheels and frame come apart for storage.
How a scupper-hole cart works
Sit-on-top kayaks typically have scupper holes through the hull. A cart like this has two vertical posts that slide into a pair of those holes, and the kayak rests on the posts while the wheels carry the load. That keeps the cart attached without straps. VEVOR says it fits kayaks with drain holes of 2.54 cm (1 inch) and above. A kayak with no suitable holes will not work with this style of cart.
Load capacity and frame
The frame is 2 mm thick aluminum alloy, and VEVOR rates it for up to 280 lb (127 kg). That figure refers to the kayak and its gear together. Aluminum is light and doesn't rust, which is useful around water, but you should rinse sand and salt off the cart after use.
Wheels
The 10-inch solid wheels have a no-flat design, which means there is no air to leak or tyre to puncture. VEVOR says they handle sand, gravel and grass, with large hubs and shock absorption to make bumps easier. Larger wheels roll over obstacles more easily than small ones, and on soft sand they tend to sink less. Solid wheels trade some cushioning for reliability.
Protecting the kayak
Two details are aimed at protecting the hull:
- Foam padding on the top of the posts, so the post does not rub the plastic.
- Drain hole guards, which VEVOR says protect the holes from wear.
Adjusting the fit
The rack width adjusts from 110 to 455 mm, and a scale at the bottom helps you align it with the distance between your kayak's drain holes. The posts are 390 mm tall, which VEVOR says is designed to keep the kayak from dragging on the ground. Measure the space between your holes before you buy.
Storage
The wheels and frame can be detached, which helps when packing the cart in a car boot or storing it in a garage or in a kayak hatch. The listing does not give assembled dimensions.
Who it suits
It suits paddlers who carry a sit-on-top kayak over a beach path, a gravel lot or a grass bank and who don't want to haul it by hand. It does not suit kayaks with no drain holes.
What to check before you buy
- Drain holes: confirm that your kayak has them, at least 1 inch (2.54 cm) in size.
- Spacing: measure the distance between the holes and compare it with the 110 to 455 mm range.
- Weight: add up the kayak and gear and keep it below 280 lb.
- Terrain: think about the surface you use most and the distance.
- Security: check how the kayak sits on the posts and whether you want an extra strap on a rough path.
- Care: rinse and dry the cart after use, especially in salt water.
