The VEVOR SSF2 is a pair of four-way steel corner brackets for building a wooden pergola, gazebo or similar frame from 6x6 timber. Each bracket holds a post and the beams that meet it, so you assemble the structure from cut lengths of wood without complicated joinery.
What a four-way bracket does
A four-way bracket is a sleeve with openings on several sides. You slide in the post and beams, then fasten them with screws. This replaces cut joints, and VEVOR says the steel covers the wood ends and helps keep them from rotting in rain and harsh sunlight. You supply the wood, cut to the length you want.
Sizing: what "6x6" means
Timber sold as 6x6 is usually smaller than its name once it has been dried and planed. VEVOR says the inner size is 5.6 x 5.6 inches (142 x 142 mm), made for the mainstream 6x6 size, and that it fits both softwood and hardwood. Measure your actual timber before buying, since rough-sawn or thicker beams may not fit.
Material and build
The brackets are made from 2 mm carbon steel plate with a black powder coating for corrosion resistance. VEVOR says a reinforced 90° boot structure resists breakage and deformation. Each bracket is a substantial piece: the pair weighs 19.91 lb (9.03 kg, ±3%) and measures 15.35 x 10.63 x 7.95 inches (390 x 270 x 202 mm).
What is in the box
- Two four-way corner brackets.
- 48 drill-tail screws, M4.8 x 50 mm.
- An instruction manual.
VEVOR says no other accessories are needed for the bracket fixing. You still need the timber, a drill or driver and a base for the posts. Posts, concrete and footings are sold separately.
Sunshade sail holes
The brackets have grommet holes for hanging a sunshade sail. VEVOR says this helps cast shade and shed rain from the inside of the pergola, and makes the sail easy to fit, maintain and clean. Check the manual for any limits on loading from a sail, especially in wind.
Who it suits
It suits DIY builders of a patio pergola, gazebo or log-cabin-style frame who would like to use plain 6x6 timber. Tradespeople who want a quick bracket-based build might also find it useful.
What to check before you buy
- Timber size: measure your posts against the 5.6 x 5.6 inch opening.
- Layout: confirm that a four-way bracket suits where the beams meet in your design.
- Footings: plan the base and ground fixing separately, and follow local building rules.
- Loads: check the manual for snow, wind and sail loads.
- Finish: consider sealing or painting the wood.
