The VEVOR 10x10 Pop-Up Canopy is a portable shelter that covers about 100 square feet of ground with shade and, once the sidewalls are fitted, some protection from wind and rain. It is aimed at backyard parties, picnics, camping, market stalls and anyone who needs a temporary roof that goes up quickly and packs into a car.
How the pop-up frame works
A pop-up canopy ships with its frame already assembled. You lift it out of the bag, open the scissor-style frame, drape the roof cover over it and extend the legs. VEVOR says the whole job can be done in about a minute, though in practice a canopy this size is easier with two people, and the manual will say how to anchor it.
The canopy has three adjustable heights, with a maximum internal height of over 9 ft according to the brand. That is enough for most adults to stand comfortably under the centre of the roof. VEVOR says it comfortably holds 6 to 8 people.
What the fabric is made of
The roof uses 500D PU-coated silver fabric. The "D" is denier, a measure of thread thickness: a higher number usually means a heavier, tougher cloth. The polyurethane coating is what gives it water resistance, and a silver surface is typically used to reflect sunlight.
VEVOR lists UPF 50+ UV protection and CPAI-84 flame-retardant fabric. CPAI-84 is an industry standard for tent fabrics. The top cover also has added edging, and waterproof stickers on the seams are meant to let rain run off rather than collect or leak.
Removable sidewalls
The sidewalls attach with hook-and-loop (Velcro) strips, so they can be added or taken off without tools. Leave them off on a hot day for airflow, or fit them to make a more sheltered space when it is windy or damp. Sidewalls also add sail area, so a canopy with the walls on needs more careful anchoring in wind than one without. Follow the manual and weather guidance.
Carrying and storing it
The canopy packs into a wheeled bag measuring 63.4 x 9.8 x 9.8 inches (about 161 x 25 x 25 cm), which VEVOR says fits most vehicle trunks. The full set weighs 48.1 lb (about 22 kg), so the wheels help. A separate accessory bag holds 8 medium ground nails and 4 ropes, so the anchoring pieces stay together.
Where it works well
- Backyard gatherings and picnics: shade for a table and a few chairs.
- Camping and tailgating: a quick shelter at a campsite or car park.
- Stalls and events: a covered pitch for a table, which is common for markets and fairs.
- Parking a car: VEVOR lists this as a use, although a temporary canopy will not match a fixed carport in strong weather.
What to check before you buy
- Footprint: 10x10 ft is about 3 x 3 metres. Measure your space, and check any venue rules about canopies.
- Surface: the included nails suit soil and grass. On concrete or decking you will need weights or another anchoring method.
- Wind: pop-up canopies are for fair weather and light conditions. Plan to take it down if strong gusts are forecast.
- Weight and carrying: at 48.1 lb, think about who will lift it into the car.
- Fit in your vehicle: compare the bag length of 63.4 inches with your trunk.
- Upkeep: let the fabric dry fully before packing it away, to avoid mildew, and check the manual for cleaning advice.
