The VEVOR CPF-10000 is a pressurized biological pond filter with a built-in 13W UV-C lamp. Pond water collects fine debris, fish waste and algae, and it clouds quickly without filtration. This unit combines mechanical filtering, a biological stage and UV light in one sealed canister that connects to a separate pump.
How a pressurized pond filter works
In a pressurized filter, a pump pushes water through a closed container. Water passes through layers of sponge, which catch suspended particles and sediment. Because the canister is sealed, it can sit at or beside the pond, and the water is returned to the pond or a feature such as a fountain. VEVOR says the filter has four sponges of varying density, which remove suspended particles, sediment and organic matter.
The biological stage is the bio ball. Beneficial bacteria colonise such media and convert fish-waste compounds into less harmful ones. VEVOR says the bio ball supports the growth of the nitrifying population. Such bacteria take time to establish in any new filter, so changing everything at once is rarely a good idea.
Flow rate and pond size
VEVOR rates the flow-through at 2630 GPH (10,000 L/H) and says the filter suits decorative ponds up to 3,200 gallons and fish ponds up to 1,600 gallons. The lower figure for fish ponds reflects the heavier waste load from fish. The filter needs a pump, which isn't included, so match the pump's output to the filter's flow rate. A pump much larger than the filter's flow rate can reduce effectiveness. VEVOR says purification takes about 3 to 7 days.
The UV-C lamp
The 13W UV-C lamp is intended to improve water quality. UV-C light is commonly used in ponds to clump or inactivate free-floating algae, which cause green water, as the water passes the lamp. VEVOR says there are three timing settings so you can choose how long it runs and extend the lamp's life. The bulb is replaceable. Follow the manual on handling the lamp, as UV light shouldn't be looked at directly.
Cleaning and upkeep
Two features aim to make upkeep simpler. A turbidity indicator on top floats up when the sponges are due for cleaning, so the canister doesn't need opening to check. A crank handle on top moves an internal cleaning rod, and a switch lets you backwash the internal dirt. Sponges and the bulb are replaceable.
Materials and fittings
The housing is reinforced PP plastic, which VEVOR says resists sunlight, water and ageing. The listing includes four adapter sizes: 3/4", 1", 1-1/4" and 1-1/2" (1.9, 2.54, 3.2 and 3.8 cm), so the unit can connect to a range of pipe sizes. It measures about 15.9 x 15.7 x 21.3 inches (40 x 40 x 54 cm) and weighs 17.9 lb (about 8 kg).
Who it suits
It suits owners of garden ponds, koi ponds, fountains and pools who want a sealed, compact filter with UV included, and who can supply a suitable pump and plumbing.
What to check before you buy
- Pond volume and stocking: compare your pond's size and fish load with the 3,200 and 1,600 gallon figures.
- Pump: it needs a separate pump; match flow rate and fittings.
- Hose sizes: check your tubing against the four adapter sizes.
- Power: the UV lamp needs an outdoor-suitable electrical supply; follow local codes and the manual.
- Placement: think about drainage for backwashing and access to the top for cleaning.
- Winter: check the manual on running or storing the filter in freezing weather.
