The VEVOR ATSA1420 is a pull-out awning that attaches to the roof rack of an SUV or similar vehicle and creates a shaded area beside it. It covers 4.6 x 6.6 feet (about 1.4 x 2 m), and VEVOR says it accommodates three to five people. It is aimed at camping, picnics, overlanding and road trips. The one firm requirement: it needs a roof rack.
What the coverage means
An area of 4.6 x 6.6 feet is about 30 square feet. That is a decent patch of shade for a few folding chairs or a small table, but not a large camp kitchen. VEVOR says the awning can be attached to the side or rear of a vehicle, and that the steel poles allow it to be used as a ground shelter as well.
Fabric and specifications
The cover is 280G polyester with a PU 3000 mm coating. Here is what those numbers mean in general:
- 280G refers to the fabric weight; a higher number usually means a denser, tougher cloth.
- PU 3000 mm is a hydrostatic head figure. It describes how tall a column of water the fabric can hold before water starts to pass through. Around 3,000 mm is a common figure for tents and shelters that handle ordinary rain.
- UV50+ refers to ultraviolet protection, the highest category on the usual UPF scale.
VEVOR also describes a black sunshade coating and a heat-insulating design. Seams and conditions matter as much as the number, so treat the awning as shade and light-rain cover rather than a full storm shelter.
Poles, ropes and pegs
The support poles are rust-proof aluminium alloy with reinforced corners and rubber connectors. Thickened guy ropes are provided for wind. VEVOR says the luminous ground pegs are easy to see at night, which cuts down on tripping. As with any awning, peg it down, use the guy lines and take it in when strong wind is forecast.
Setting it up
Hardware is included, and VEVOR says installation is simple even for beginners. It bolts or clamps to your roof rack, so check the fixings against the shape of your rack bars. A waterproof PVC carry bag is provided for transport and storage. The packed size is listed at about 78.7 x 98.4 x 78.7 inches (200 x 250 x 200 cm) for the shipping figure, and the weight is 15.4 lb (about 7 kg).
Who it suits
It suits campers, overlanders and families with an SUV or truck that already has a roof rack and who want quick shade at a picnic, trailhead or campsite.
What to check before you buy
- A roof rack: the awning cannot be mounted without one; confirm yours is fitted.
- Rack compatibility: check the bar shape and spacing against the fitting hardware.
- Rack load limit: check the roof and rack limits in your vehicle manual.
- Space: make sure there is clear ground on the side where you'll use it.
- Weather: pack it away in strong wind, and dry it before long-term storage.
