The VEVOR 12V diaphragm pump (model NMDP42-G35-55-12) is a small, self-priming water pump that runs from a 12-volt supply. It is the kind of pump that supplies running water in an RV or boat, and VEVOR also lists it for garden watering and agricultural irrigation.
What a diaphragm pump does
A diaphragm pump moves water with a flexing membrane and a set of valves, rather than a spinning impeller. This design typically handles intermittent use well and can prime itself, meaning it draws water up from a tank without needing to be filled first. VEVOR rates the self-priming lift at up to 6 ft (about 1.8 m).
Flow and motor
The open-flow rate is 3.5 GPM (roughly 13 litres a minute), which is the flow with no resistance in the line. Real flow at a tap is lower, because it drops as pressure rises. VEVOR lists a built-in motor drawing 7.5A, which is worth remembering when sizing your wiring, fuse and battery. Work that out against the manual rather than guessing.
The pressure switch
A built-in pressure switch turns the pump on when you open a tap and off when you close it, so you don't have to start and stop it by hand. It is preset to 55 PSI and adjustable between 40 and 80 PSI. VEVOR says it also stops the pump when pressure is abnormal, which helps avoid clogs and damage. Make sure the fittings and hoses on your system are rated above the pressure you set.
Protection and sealing
The listing mentions built-in overload protection, which is meant to keep the motor from overheating, and sealing tape to reduce the risk of leaks at the threads. As with any threaded plumbing connection, check for drips after installing.
Noise
VEVOR describes the pump as quiet, with a motor tuned to reduce mechanical friction and a water path designed to lessen impact sounds. In a small cabin or camper, mounting a pump on a firm base with flexible hoses typically helps reduce vibration noise further.
Connections and size
The port is 1/2 in MNPT (male national pipe thread). The pump measures 8.3 x 5.4 x 4.9 in and weighs 4.2 lb. Small hose adaptors may be needed to link it to your tank and plumbing.
Where it fits
The brand lists RVs, boats and yachts for drinking, washing and daily water, plus agricultural irrigation and long-distance garden watering. For anything intended for drinking water, check that the pump's materials and your tubing are approved for that purpose.
What to check before you buy
- Power: confirm your 12V system can supply 7.5A, with the right fuse and wire gauge.
- Pressure: check the PSI that your fixtures and fittings can take.
- Fittings: 1/2 in MNPT ports need matching adaptors.
- Water source: the 6 ft lift is the maximum; shorter is easier.
- Fresh or drinking water: confirm material suitability for your use.
- Mounting and filtering: a strainer on the inlet usually protects the pump from debris.
