The Renogy 50in Adjustable Solar Panel Mount is a set of aluminium-style brackets for fixing solar panels to an RV roof, a boat or another flat surface. Its tilt legs let you angle the panels towards the sun while parked and lay them flat for the road. This page explains what it fits and what comes in the box.
What the mount is for
Solar panels collect the most energy when they face the sun. A flat roof mount keeps panels low and stable while driving, but a tilted panel generally collects more when the sun is lower in the sky. Renogy's tilt design combines the two: fixed L-brackets hold one edge and tilt L-brackets let you raise the other. Renogy says you tilt the panels while stationary and return them flat while the vehicle is moving.
Which panels it fits
The 50-inch set is listed as compatible with several Renogy panels: 175W, 200W and 250W N-Type panels, and 320W, 350W, 450W, 550W and 590W models. It also works with two 100W Renogy panels. Renogy says it supports up to 320W on one mount. The listing says Renogy's brackets are designed for Renogy panels, so confirm the frame dimensions and hole spacing of any other make before ordering.
What's in the box
The package includes four fixed L-brackets and two tilt L-brackets, with a long hardware list:
- six M8 plastic knob screws, six M8 wing nuts, six M8 washers and six M8 spring washers
- four M6 x 16 mm hex cap bolts, four M6 split lock washers, eight M6 flat washers and four M6 hex nuts
- six #10 x 1¼ in self-drilling cap screws and six plastic retaining rings
Renogy says the fasteners are stainless steel and the holes are placed precisely for quick assembly.
Installing on an RV or flat surface
Plan the layout before drilling. Mark the position, check what lies under the roof, such as vents, frames and wiring, and seal any holes with a suitable sealant. Roof materials differ, so follow the manual and Renogy's instructions for fixing screws into the structure. Wiring, charge controllers and batteries are separate topics, and a qualified installer can help if you are not sure.
Size
The brackets are listed at about 22.6 x 1.2 x 0.8 inches (57 x 3 x 2 cm), while the "50in" in the name refers to the panel length the set suits.
Who it suits
It suits RV, camper and van owners and anyone mounting Renogy panels on a flat roof, trailer or cabin. People who park for days at a time gain most from tilting.
What to check before you buy
- Panel model and size: match your panel against the compatible list and measure its mounting holes.
- Quantity: confirm how many sets you need for your number of panels.
- Roof surface: check that the fastening method suits your roof material, and plan for sealing.
- Wind and height: tilted panels catch wind, so lay them flat when driving or in strong wind.
- Clearance: make sure the tilted panel won't hit vents, antennas or doors.
- Warranty: Renogy states a one-year material and workmanship commitment; read the terms.
