The Renogy 200W Portable Solar Panel (RPP200EF-SE) is a foldable panel for charging a power station or small devices away from the mains. Renogy aims it at camping, fishing, RV trips and off-grid use, where a roof installation isn't practical.
What 200W means
The 200W figure is the panel's peak output in ideal conditions: strong sun, the panel facing it directly and a moderate temperature. Real output is usually lower, because of cloud, angle, heat and shade. In general, a higher wattage charges a power station faster, but sun conditions matter as much as the number.
Efficiency and materials
Renogy states a power conversion efficiency of 23.5% and says it uses Grade A solar cells with an ETFE surface. ETFE is a tough, light plastic film often used on portable panels instead of glass, which helps keep the weight down. Higher efficiency means more power from a given area, which matters on a panel you have to carry.
Output ports
The panel has four outputs:
- One industry-standard solar connector, used to charge a power station.
- One USB-C port.
- Two USB-A ports, one orange and one black.
The USB ports let you charge devices directly, such as a phone, while the solar connector feeds a compatible power station. Check the manual for the voltage and current limits of each port, and that your power station's input is compatible.
Built for outdoor use
The panel folds for transport and holds closed with a magnetic design, with a buckle or hook-and-loop fastening. Four mounting holes let you tie it to a car roof, an RV or a tree. Renogy rates it IP65 for splash and dust resistance, but adds that it shouldn't be soaked or left in pouring rain for long. Treat it as splash-resistant, not submersible.
Size
Dimensions are about 25.0 x 2.2 x 21.1 inches, probably the folded size. Check the manual for the unfolded size and the weight when planning for space in a bag or vehicle.
Who it suits
It suits campers, RV owners, anglers and people wanting a backup charging option for a portable power station. It is a charger for devices and portable batteries, not a home solar system.
What to check before you buy
- Power station input: confirm the connector, voltage and current limits match.
- Weight and folded size: check they suit how you travel.
- Sun conditions: expect lower output than the rated 200W on cloudy days.
- Placement: position it in direct sun and avoid shade; tie it down securely in wind.
- Cables: check which cables are in the box.
- Weather: keep it out of long rain, as the brand advises.
